    Description:Will be assigned as the Lead Hardware Engineer for the Lockheed Martin Australian Submarine Combat System (ASCS) Program. This position is located in Adelaide Australia, with an expected period of 2 years, and possibly longer.

    As Combat System Integrator (CSI), Lockheed Martin (LM) is responsible for design, development, and integration of all inboard and outboard combat system elements in support of the Australian Future Submarine Platform (FSM). This position will be responsible for technical, cost, and schedule performance for the inboard hardware solution developed to support multiple subsystems of the ASCS combat system suite.
    Scope includes:
    -Enclosures - structures / power / cooling / monitor and control
    -Consoles, and other ancillary inboard items

    The Lead Hardware Engineer must coordinate with LM program office personnel, LM Australia engineering personnel, subsystem IPT leads, subcontract partners, US based LM Rotary & Mission Systems (RMS) support staff and subject matter experts, among other disciplines to fulfill this role. You will be expected to become a subject matter expert on the system, the enabling technologies, and in the customer's applications.

    Additional/Specific Responsibilities Include:
    -Developing processes for engineering and Sourcing
    Maximize Australian Content - build local supplier base
    -Traditional SE requirements flow down with high Paper to Product Ratio
    -Higher ratio of subcontracting out custom electronic designs (Power filters and distribution, media conversion)
    -Power conservation as an independent design variable since power is limited

    Project timeline for 2021-2022:
    Mid-2021 is PDR (preliminary design review)
    Prototypes of hardware (PDUs, Power Filters)
    Subcontract activities
    Support other FMS contracts
    Grow the size of the team
    Mid-2023 is CDR (critical design review)
    Basic Qualifications:
    Requires someone who is suited for a large-scale development activity including requirements analyses, plan development, design, vendor development, development of subcontracts, developing a supply base, support working groups, ship builder interfacing, process development, developmental testing - all with a fairly immature organization.

    -Proficient with electronic systems schematic interpretation, electrical and mechanical drawings, hardware architecture and design
    -Operation and use of standard test and measuring instruments
    -Willing and able to occasionally travel to support technical tasks, system installations, modifications, and testing
    -Possess good verbal and written communication skills and be self-motivated in performance of duties with limited supervision
    -Must have a track record of excellent presentation skills, and with establishing and maintaining good relationship with customers
    -Able to lead complex technical trade studies in support of key decision making for the submarine systems
    -Effectively manage budgets within cost / schedule
    -Develop hardware products that meet customer requirements and derived requirements/technical performance measures
    -Familiarity with both Design and Drafting engineers (CREO, ANSYS, ZUKEN E3 preferred) or similar CAD, Analysis and Cables Design tools required
    Desired Skills:
    -Hardware Engineering experience with submarine electronics systems (Sonar, Combat, Imaging, etc.)
    -Familiar with US and International military and environmental specifications, and qualification testing against military specifications
    -Experience with power system design, cooling systems design, hardware monitoring and diagnostics, shipboard rack and structure development, and electronics packaging and integration
    -Experience leading teams of engineers through product development cycles, from conceptual design through detailed design, review, release, build, and test efforts
    -Experience with trade studies, subcontractor oversight, specification development, risk management methodologies, design for manufacturability and design for unit production cost methods
    -Experience with Engineering design tools Cost Account Management (CAM) experience
