    Writing Consultants represent an integral part of The Center for Student Achievement. Writing Consultants have an opportunity to collaborate with faculty and the Center for Student Achievement Coordinator in developing workshops and providing feedback to improve student services.Writing Consultantswill have the opportunity to develop as leaders by engaging in a variety of skills. They will have the opportunity to participate in problem solving and creativity as they determine effective ways of engaging with students who learn in different ways.Writing Consultantswill also develop and fine-tune organizational skills as they balance individual student appointments and groupconsultations. This position also allowsWriting Consultantsto enhance their communication skills. This is an excellent opportunity for students who have an interest in helping professions, education, customer/client services, or any occupation in which you will utilize problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills.

    Qualifications: Writing Consultants shouldenjoy writing and revision, write well, demonstrate reliable and conscientious behavior, and enjoy the important process of talking about writing. Students who have struggled with writing but who have worked hard develop more effective writing processes and students who speak multiple languages are especially encouraged to apply.

    Primary Responsibilities:Writing Consultants will be responsible for working with individual students and groups of studentsin an effort tohelp their peers develop academic skills and deeper course knowledge. Writing Consultants must be dependable, responsible, and patient. Writing Consultants will be expected to work collaboratively and abide by a professional code of conduct. Writing Consultants will be expected to be prompt for appointments and classes, take complete and organized notes, manage time efficiently, handle problems tactfully and effectively, and keep information regarding all students confidential. Writing Consultants will be expected to attend on-going professionaldevelopmentand monthly staff meetings.


    Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
