    Job Description


    The Director of Patient Care Services will provide overall administrative direction and leadership for clinical staff, policies and procedures and programs for one or more clinical departments within patient care services. The Director will participate in the analysis, planning and strategic formation of clinical program goals.

    Clinical staff of patient care services.

    Oversees the performance of the staff to ensure clinical quality care and safety. Works collaboratively with other departments, the nursing leadership council, and the medical staff.

    Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.

    Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times, keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.

    Collaborates with the vice president of patient care services toward the accomplishment of the objectives of the division and hospital.

    Leads development of policies, procedures and quality targets to ensure effective and efficient service, quality patient care and compliance with standards of the hospital, external licensing, accreditation and regulatory bodies.

    Oversees or performs staff hiring, establishment of performance objectives and assessment to include coaching and corrective action.

    Actively participates in the budgeting process and in budget monitoring/corrective action process to meet respective targets. Provides variance reports to the vice president patient care services.

    Evaluates capital requests against revenue statistics.

    Promotes and maintains open communication with staff through rounds and establishment of open door policy. Develops collegial relationships with medical faculty and attending physicians.

    Participates in risk management process. Ensures that issues, complaints and policy violations are investigated thoroughly and timely.

    Develops and communicates vision for care delivery models and facilitates ongoing refinement of such models.
    Oversees developmental opportunities for the clinical staff. Collaborates to develop and implement continuing education programs and services to meet identified needs.

    Serves on committees and task forces to address organizational and clinical issues and represents the needs and goals of the organization on external committees.

    Participates in the development of quality measurements and performance improvement plans.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

    Knowledge of applicable regulatory agency, compliance and licensing requirements.

    Proven ability to motivate, train, encourage and empower employees.

    Excellent problem solving, decision making and organization skills.

    Must have the ability to function autonomously and possess effective time management skills.

    Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and clinical skills in specialty area.

    Commitment to promoting high standards of patient care and customer service.

    Possess comprehensive knowledge of current nursing theory and practice.

    BSN and Master's Degree in nursing or related field required.

    Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word and Internet usage.

    Minimum of five (5) years of management experience.

    Current Florida RN license.

    Special area certification preferred.
