    Job Description

    This employee is responsible for working with INR Self-Testing Patients. The nurse will use their clinical management skills to coordinate and implement: device training, equipment troubleshooting, testing compliance, and patient advocacy.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the coagulation process, the role of Vitamin K, thrombogenesis, hypercoagulable states, and antithrombotic therapy
    • Able to identify cardiovascular indications for anticoagulation therapy
    • Understands the mechanism of action of warfarin and other anticoagulants used in clinical setting
    • Able to describe the impact of medications, disease states, diet, and lifestyle/activity on anticoagulation therapy
      • Understands how socioeconomic, behavioral, psychological, and environmental factors impact patient compliancy and adherence to anticoagulation therapy
    • Understands and properly uses INR Patient Self-Testing Meters and their respected ancillary items
    • Understands the meaning of prothrombin time (PT), International Normalized Ratio (INR), and International Sensitivity Index (ISI), as well as how they relate to each other
    • Performs equipment setups in a timely and professional manner via telephone
    • Ensures that patients are compliant with the testing and reporting requirements
    • Able to provide initial and ongoing education to patients regarding use of home testing equipment
    • Provide problem solving and diagnostic resolve of equipment issues via telephone
    • Maintains patient records in complete and organized manner in compliance with accreditation standards, including accurate entry of information in patient's electronic medical record
    • Provides patient education as an intricate part of the patient care activity according to the patient's need and Lincare policy
    • Must be able to professionally interface with doctors, other referral sources, and patients
    • Must be computer literate
    • Must have strong telephone skills
      • Must have the ability to work patiently with individuals over the phone who are using our equipment for the first time
      • Must have the ability to provide instructions in terms that the non-clinical patient can understand
    • Must have current, unrestricted, RN License in state of employment
      • responsible for maintaining said RN License as active, valid, and in good standing
      • Missouri is a member of the nurse licensure compact (NLC)
