    A professional management position responsible for supervising and coordinating the administrative and operational activities in the assigned areas. In collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, assures safe, efficient and cost-effective care to the patients within the assigned areas. Collaborates with Communications and Marketing, Mission Services, Strategic Planning, and other Mercy Corporate Departments concerning the design and implementation of major promotional and public awareness campaigns / initiatives pertaining to the health, safety, security, and education of children. Functions as interface with community and governmental agencies concerning collaboration on health advocacy issues.


    Identifies opportunities to collaborate/partner with other community and public agencies. Leads and/or facilitates such collaboration.

    Collaborates with Foundation Office regarding identification of external funding for advocacy initiatives and obtaining available grant funding.

    Develop staffing guidelines that support current budget and external benchmarks.

    Utilizes appropriate interpersonal and management styles to create a working environment that is conducive to the achievement of tasks and provides a high quality working environment for all team members.

    Develops and monitors annual capital and operating budgets. Coordinates daily operations of the Mercy Health St. Vincent and Mercy Health Children's Hospital Social Work Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling and budgeting.

    Interviews, hires, develops, counsels, and evaluates staff in order to maintain a highly competent, mission-oriented, and values driven team.

    Serves as a mentor and role model within the institution and professional community.

    Participates in the development, review and revision of policies and procedures consistent with the institutional practice.

    Demonstrated skill in verbal and written communication. Ability to relate to and work with health care professionals, representatives of the community, and staff from public and private agencies at all levels. Demonstrated skill in public speaking and ability to represent Hospital before the mass media and general community.

    Provides clinical supervision to Social Workers.

    Performs social work duties necessary to ensure the proper handling of the most complex cases and/or most specialized areas including the use of clinical treatment techniques.

    Identifies patients and/or families who may be deemed at-risk and in need of clinical intervention. Examples may include those a) whose pre-existing emotional problems or dysfunctional family transactions may interfere with medical care, b) who lack the flexibility and coping mechanisms to deal with the present

    situation, c) whose history indicates potential problems with respect to treatment adherence, d) who are in high-risk categories by diagnosis or age, e) potential actual abuse/neglect/domestic violence/sexual assault.


    Education:Masters DegreeSpecialty/Major:Social Work, Health Education, Public Health, Nursing, or related discipline

    Certification Required: LISW


    Minimum of 3 years experience in human services or health related field required. Functional knowledge of health systems and public health issues required.

    Demonstrated skill in verbal and written communication, demonstrated skill in public speaking required. Experience writing budgets and monitoring expenses for multiple projects.


    Specific experience with child health promotion activities preferred. Experience / demonstrated skill in proposal development and writing preferred.

    Working Conditions:

    Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.

    General office environment.

    Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel.

    May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.

    May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.

    May have periods of constant interruptions.

    Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
