    SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Dining Room Associate is responsible for quality food preparation and service to the customers of the cafeteria/hospital. The Dining Room Associate prepares and serves food, operates various food preparation equipment in addition to the computer and cash register, performs catering duties, and cleans assigned work areas and equipment. The Dining Room Associate promotes favorable guest/employee relations and continuously expresses the core values and philosophy of the hospital in daily activities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:
    • High school graduate or equivalency test.

      EXPERIENCE:
    • Previous food service experience and cashier experience preferred.

      KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
    • Follows detailed written and oral instructions. Completes specific, routine tasks. Requires basic reading, writing, or simple mathematics skills. May operate equipment/machinery.
    • Work is routine. Makes decisions based on detailed procedures; technical aids generally available. Has clear cut alternative available and usually follows a specified course of action.
    • Impact is generally focused on immediate work area. May also affect closely related activities in other work units or teams on a temporary basis. Influence is indirect and supportive in nature. Accountability is restricted. Activities are usually assigned by others.
    • Works independently. Interactions are generally brief and informal. Requires common courtesy.

      PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
    Prepares food in specified quantities and strives for optimal quality in taste, appearance, temperature, aroma, and texture of all foods. Serves food in a professional, friendly manner and includes suggestive selling in service to customers. Reports shortages of food items or necessary substitutions promptly to the appropriate person. Performs cashier duties which include operating the register, knowing prices and charging appropriately per item, maintaining drawer variances within specified guidelines, knowing portion sizes, and treating customers fairly. Counts cash drawer at the end of cashier shift and records cashier report data in book. Accesses cashier report on the computer. Performs various catering duties as assigned which may include the pre-preparation, setup and delivery and/or clean up of beverage carts, luncheons and dinners. Able to perform in all areas of the cafeteria including the Hot Counter, Grill, Salad Bar, Bakery, Cashier and Catering. Operates the cafeteria equipment (i.e., grill, fryer, steam tables, oven, cash registers, pop machine, ice machine, coffee machine, etc.) according to proper equipment procedures. Promptly reports any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor. Cleans equipment and work area(s) in a sanitary manner during daily activities and completes special cleaning tasks as assigned. Stocks and cleans the dining area and Physicians' private dining area, including tables and condiment counters. Stocks supplies and condiments as needed in the cafeteria and dining areas. Adheres to scheduled hours and break times. Plans and performs work in an organized manner and is able to complete job duties within scheduled shift. Displays adaptability and flexibility in handling unexpected changes in work volume and/or meeting emergency situations. Works independently with minimal direct supervision from supervisors. Attends/participates in hospital, departmental and unit meetings, and in activities as needed. Communicates effectively with coworkers, supervisors, hospital and non-hospital personnel. Adheres to standard policies and procedures within the hospital and department. Trains new employees as requested by supervisor.
