    The Opportunity:

    The Fiber Optimization Manager is responsible for final fiber quality delivered to the mill from all supplier sources. This includes managing quality, including loading, transportation, unloading, debarking, chipping, storage, and reclaiming. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

    Demonstrate a sense of urgency and accountability in:

    o Safety & Housekeeping - Ensuring all safety programs are followed

    o Prioritizing and processing work

    o Supporting routine and annual outages

    o Planning, assigning, and providing follow-up of work

    Understand and communicate goals in quality and production

    Assist with departmental adherence to corporate policies

    Clearly set and manage expectations for all direct and indirect reports, meeting and surpassing established mill and departmental goals and objectives

    Training, development, and supervision of all Woodyard personnel (33 hourly and 1 salaried)

    Monitor and manage the mill's chip and round wood fiber quality program to ensure the highest sustained fiber yield

    Develop and maintain analytical processes to monitor chip quality to ensure clear visibility to fiber quality and optimization efforts (i.e. Excel & Minitab)

    Work with Fiber Supply to ensure fiber quality alignment

    Engage with mill operations to ensure the optimization efforts align with specific digester requirements

    Develop and champion projects and processes related to enhancing the fiber quality

    Lead and support capital development needs specific to fiber quality improvements or fiber optimization initiatives both inside the mill operations and at remote Forest Resources operations

    Maintain routine communications with Mill General Manager, Operations Manager, Fiber Supply, and relevant others as to fiber quality status and updates on specific initiatives and/or quality concerns

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    What you need to succeed:

    High School Diploma or equivalency required, degree in related field preferred.

    10+ years' experience working in a paper mill wood yard, pulp mill, chip mill, wood procurement, forestry, or related experience

    Proficient in the use of spreadsheets, word processing software and email

    Ability to work safely in the mill environment

    Knowledge of woodyard, chip mill, and residual converting operations

    Knowledge of woodland and pulping processes and associated problems that occur due to poor fiber quality

    Strong mechanical skills required

    Role based competencies required include quality and process improvement skills, accountability, communication skills and good judgment and problem-solving skills

    Technical Degree preferred
