Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Military and Civil Space Systems is looking for an operations manager to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the largest strategic Internal Research and Development (IRAD) project at Azusa. This IRAD project is facilitating the capture efforts on a number of programs within its Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) portfolio of programs. The project is compartmentalized into6 product teams: 1) systems engineering (includes requirements and algorithm development), 2) flight software, 3) FPGA firmware development, 4) hardware development (electrical, thermal, structure, mechanical), 5) hardware in the loop testbed (optical testbed), and 6) pointing control. The specific areas of technology maturation include the development of the next generation of onboard signal processing hardware, flight software, and firmware, measurement of fine-scale payload jitter motion, advancing onboard signal processing algorithms, and designing prototype optical systems for future payload missions.
The candidate will manage the day-to-day operations of the IRAD project that employs the support of 30-40 engineers with diverse technical backgrounds. Tasks will include ensuring the team meets project milestones, interfacing with supply chain and our vendors on the procurement of several high value hardware components, and tracking the overall health of the program that include schedule, staffing, budget, and providing project status. Candidate will support the project manager in coordinating collaboration across product teams as well as with program leads to ensure IRAD objectives continue to support program technology maturation requirements.
Candidate must have solid project and/or IPT management experience. Skills should include strong communication, being detailed oriented, diverse technical background to provide technical feedback on various areas of the project, and the ability to solve ill-defined problems that may arise. Candidate will also need to be comfortable in briefing live demonstrations of the technology to site executives as well as our external customers.
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) & 5 years of leadership experience in a technical engineering field
Ability to obtain & maintain a DoD secret security clearance (US Citizenship Required)
Common usage knowledge of Microsoft Office, communication, skills
Previous project and/or IPT management experience
EO/IR Design and Test Experience
Current & active DoD security clearance
Familiarity with circuit card assembly design
Familiarity with image/signal processing
Familiarity with Flight software and/or VHDL development
