Your Opportunity

Learns, demonstrates knowledge and skills, and becomes certified in all aspects of company systems and the pork industry standards. Collects data and samples as outlined in protocols for research trials. Monitor and care for animals on research trials. This position functions under the supervision of the appropriate department leader while performing all duties and responsibilities as a learning/development process. Manager Trainee will work for 1 (one) year in the Research Department and then be transferred to the Production Department.

Core Responsibilities
  • Works with some regularity at both research farm sites; as managers deem necessary due to the needs of data collection and/or employee scheduled work hours.
  • Works daily on research farm; including weighing and moving pigs from wean age to market age.
  • Implements and follows all protocols for each research trial; including recording all necessary data
  • Performs and masters all methods of data collection; including operating pen and individual scales
  • Provide oversight of research feed manufacture at the feed mill and delivery of feed at farm
  • Upkeep of research equipment and facilities; including computerized feed systems
  • Learns, demonstrates capability/knowledge and becomes certified in all farm department areas including fulfilling all the requirements and responsibilities listed under the Breeding/Farrowing and Nursery/Finishing job description.
  • Gains a solid understanding of and ability to implement company systems such as pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, genetics, husbandry, etc.
  • Performs and masters all hourly jobs under supervision. Becomes certified in each job after showing competence and skill/understanding in each.
  • Develops and establishes rapport/relationships with all personnel and management.
  • Develops and prepares required reports on experiences encountered and addresses/shares opportunities for improvement.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as defined by management according to standards.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for understanding and complying with company IPS, EMS and BMS policies and procedures in the performance of their job duties.

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related Agricultural field of study from a regionally accredited college or university, or equivalent supervisory experience and/or previous swine experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to work an average 48 hour week, which can vary frequently.
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.
  • Must shower in and out of farm facilities daily
  • Willing to work 1 year in the Research Department as a Manager Trainee and then be transferred to the Production Department as a Manager Trainee.
  • Ability to lead others
  • Ability and willingness to relocate to complete training and assume first managerial assignment
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft software
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high-quality pork products.
Supervisory Responsibilities

When basic technical certification is complete, will provide leadership and guidance to personnel within a department with Manager oversight.

  • Must be able to frequently climb over, under, and around penning.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on concrete for 9 to 12 hours per day, walking down narrow alleys and in and out of narrow penning.
  • Must be able to walk an average of 2 – 4 miles per day, occasionally up to 5 or 6.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a limited basis.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned-over or squatted position.
  • Must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high quality pork products.
  • Must be able to tolerate and willing to learn and perform the following tasks: euthanasia, castration, vaccinations, piglet processing, ear tagging for identification, taking blood samples and other procedures normal to animal husbandry.
  • Must be able to operate a high pressure washing system.
  • Must be able to work with and around a wide range of antibiotics (i.e. penicillin).
  • Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus..
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
