You Will Be Responsible For:
Scope of Responsibility:
  • Represent administration to the public and notifies administrator on call as appropriate.

  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills within own department, with administrative team and throughout hospital.

  • Perform coaching/evaluation sessions with associates on a timely basis to foster staff development and growth in a caring and respectful manner.

  • Demonstrates and conveys a favorable image of the Medical Center.

  • Work within the parameters of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and adhere to regulatory standards.

  • Delegate and/or assign nursing associate responsibilities considering the following factors - the degree of supervision needed by the associate, competence and experience level, staff availability, and patient acuity.

  • Follow-up on patient complaints utilizing Patient Care Problem Solving Process and/or Conflict Resolution Process to resolve patient care conflicts.

  • Utilize Conflict Resolution Process to resolve conflicts and maintain collaborative relationships. 

  • Demonstrate and model positive behaviors, which are supportive of change.

  • Ensure adherence to Corporate Integrity Plan for self and coworkers.

  • Anticipate, recognize, and appropriately intervene with risk management issues.

  • Take responsibility for own actions, openly admit mistakes and seek ways to correct the problem.

  • Model ethical behavior in decision making and in all situations.

  • Contact marketing department in dealing with media calls.

  • Document incidents as needed for follow up in a manner that is are clear and factual of the event and sent to appropriate department manager. 

  • Incorporates patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action.

  • Model outstanding patient and customer service and hold staff accountable for the same.

  • Prioritize urgent needs of the hospital and will provide administrative directions to meet these needs.

  • Assess patient care units to gather pertinent information to optimize productivity and improve patient outcomes. 

  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations with appropriate notification of administrative personnel on call, and take action as defined in Rapid Respond Team, crisis, or code blue plans as applicable.

  • Facilitate critical thinking and decision-making skills of colleagues.

  • Monitor and assess customer satisfaction data and takes corrective action as appropriate through the CQI process.

  • Identify any age specific growth and developmental issues and incorporate into plan of care.

  • Facilitate intradepartmental problem solving (admitting, E.D., O.R., units), and make administrative decision to provide best practice judgments.

  • Implement nursing interventions according to the plan of care, hospital policies, procedures and protocols.

  • Facilitate implementation, execution, and compliance of policy and procedures.

  • Collaborate with physicians and other disciplines to provide quality patient care.

  • Make sound clinical judgments about patient care as evidenced by practice, progress notes and plan of care.

Qualifications

 

What You Will Need:
  • Associate’s Degree or Graduate of a Technical School

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of empolyment

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License

  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association

  • Three years progressive leadership experience
Job Summary:

The Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) is accountable for administrative supervision of the hospital during the evening, weekends, and designated holidays hours. The PCS is responsible for acting as a role model for the vision and values of Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  S/he is accountable for working within the parameters of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards, established policies, protocols and procedures; and utilizes other pertinent references as guidelines for clinical practice.   The PCS collaborates with patients, families, physicians and associates to meet customer needs and expectations in a patient focused/healing environment.   PCS is accountable for administering, supervising and/or coaching this process to strengthen the accountable work team.
