    SUMMARY

    Provides customer service by answering phone, completing customer requests, and identifying and resolving problems. Receives, registers and orders patient specimens. Receives and prepares laboratory specimens for testing. Prepares laboratory reports for delivery to clients.

    Education:

    High School Graduate or equivalent.

    Proficient knowledge of computer and communication systems including keyboarding skills.

    Familiarity with laboratory terminology with one year prior laboratory experience preferred.

    Communication and telephone skills sufficient to deliver excellent customer service without direct supervision.

    Analytical and problem solving skills sufficient to organize work quickly and efficiently and resolve problems accurately without immediate supervision.

    Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.

    Performs laboratory pre-analytical and post-analytical functions including registration, customer service, specimen processing, order entry, report distribution, and problem resolution.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Works in office environment, patient service areas, and clinical laboratory

    Exposure to infections specimens

    Considerable walking and standing time

    Work involves considerable visual and mental fatigue

    Work involves stressful conditions due to multiple demands

    This position includes weekend and holiday rotations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Answers incoming phone calls from laboratory clients:
    • Maintains a high degree of professionalism in handling customer requests
    • Uses computer system to access and relay requested information
    • Able to determine patient's test status via computer system
    • Completes requests for laboratory reports from care-givers, non care-givers, and patients according to policy
    • Relays technical questions to the appropriate laboratory department
    • Manages customer requests and completes phone log in an efficient and timely manner
    Processes incoming laboratory specimens

    Registers incoming specimens from outreach clients

    Processes requests for additional testing, miscellaneous tests, and orders from specialty areas including Research andEmployee/OccupationalHealth

    Includes holiday and weekend rotations.
