    Job Description

    Job Summary: Performs a wide range of Ultrasound procedures including abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological and some vascular exams. Interacts daily with patients and other medical personnel.

    Department Specific Job Responsibilities:
    1. Utilizes appropriate ergonomic body mechanics to prevent personal injury. Requests assistance while
      performing sonograms as needed to prevent injury to oneself.
    Essential Responsibilities:
    1. Reviews charts, selects appropriate equipment and transducers for tests as ordered. Interviews patients, obtains necessary information, explains procedures, allays apprehensions and positions patient appropriately. Assists physicians during sterile invasive procedures, i.e. amniocenteses, cyst punctures, thoracenteses, biopsies, etc.
    2. Records images on PACS, and provides images on film and paper when needed. Provides preliminary interpretation in daily logbook and may convey preliminary interpretation to requesting physician after discussion with radiologist. Views screen, detects pathology/other factors (f/u, change of shape, etc.). Determines images appropriate for diagnostic purpose.
    3. Assists the work of other divisions during procedures. Performs functions in areas outside the Ultrasound Suite, including O.R., intensive care units, Emergency Department, and nursing floors using portable ultrasound equipment.
    4. Shares on-call duties (24 hour coverage) with fellow sonographers only after reaching a minimum required expertise as judged by the Ultrasound Manager and physician in charge of Ultrasound.
    5. Assists in training of residents, staff and student sonographers. Performs routine clerical duties, answers phones, schedules patients, order supplies, distributes results, keeps work area clean, and makes entries in computer.
    Required Qualifications:
    1. Vocational or Technical training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography required. Associate's degree in Ultrasound preferred.
    2. Registration AR Diagnostic Medical Sonograp required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
    3. 1-3 years related work experience required.
    4. New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
    5. ARDMS certification in Abdominal and/or OB/GYN specialties.
    6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

    Department Description

    Schedule: Part Time - 20 Hours - Alternating Sat and Sun 11am - 11:30pm, every Friday 8am - 4:30pm some variation on Friday depending on schedule assignment 7a- 3:30p

    The Ultrasound Section of Radiology has sites at both the East and West Campuses and staff are assigned and rotate to both campuses. This is mainly an off shift schedule and the candidate is oriented to the three sites and in the ED US area. The campuses are a short walk across the street. A variety of exams are performed including Abdominal, Gyn, 1st trimester OB, Small Parts, Vascular and some limited Neonatal exams. The candidate will also be responsible for assisting with various procedures including biopsies, drainages, portable/bedside exams and guidance in the OR for certain exams.
    Staff are expected to provide technically high quality exams on every patient and fulfill department exam protocols on each patient. Exams are reviewed with the radiologist or sonographer practitioner prior to discharging the patient.
