    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience. Incumbent must have considerable knowledge of a specialized field such as plumbing. Incumbent must maintain a State of Texas Journeyman license. Incumbent must have current Texas Operators Drivers License in possession at all times when operating Austin ISD vehicles.

    SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position requires a thorough working knowledge of plumbing and the tools and equipment used for the job. Incumbent must be able to layout plumbing from a drawing or sketch. Incumbent must be able to read and interpret blueprints, piping diagrams, and installation schematics. Incumbent must have knowledge of chalking, leading, threading, and cutting.

    JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

    This position accepts responsibility for the general maintenance of all plumbing installations.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Cleans obstructions from drains, water heaters, and boiler burners.
    • Replaces pipes that have become defective, faucet washers, faucets, flush valves, broken water closets, wash basins, urinals, sprinkler heads, etc.
    • Installs ovens, dish machines, disposals, drinking fountains, steam cookers, water heaters, and sprinkler systems.
    • Makes yearly inspection of all gas lines.
    • Lights ovens, boilers, water heaters, and dish machines.
    • Replaces boiler tubes.
    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

    Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work is performed around the district, with extensive travel required. Conditions include temperature changes from weather, dirt, dust, oil, wetness, glare, and draft. Incumbent may be required to climb ladders in order to gain access to roofs, and/or be confined to small spaces such as mechanical rooms and under floor crawlspaces. Incumbent must exercise care to avoid electrical shocks, burns and natural gas hazards. Incumbent must be able to lift one-hundred (100) pounds. This position may involve rare no exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position. Incumbent may be required to work hours in addition to their normal 8-hour duty day. Incumbent may also be required to carry a pager and work on an "on call" basis. On call time will not require working on premises, but simply being available on short notice if the need arises.

    PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

    This position reports directly to the Supervisor for Buildings and Grounds and/or the Section Supervisor. Incumbent will provide guidance to Austin ISD departments as well as gas company personnel and City Plumbing and Wastewater Supervisors.
