The University of Utah Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time data architect to maintain and lead the development of data infrastructure and analysis capabilities of the Utah Transportation and Public Safety - Crash Data Initiative ( UTAPS - CDI ). UTAPS - CDI hosts, processes, and analyzes motor vehicle crash data and related data sources to provide data and web services in Utah. The data architect manages the UTAPS - CDI content management system and maintains back-end server operations and front-end web applications for internal and external users. The data architect also develops strategies for secure data storage and access, web-based tools and system connections, and supervises and supports activities performed by the UTAPS - CDI database administrator.
The successful candidate must be detailed oriented, lead the continuous growth of the system, applications, and services of the UTAPS - CDI, and have competency and experience in overseeing content management systems to meet specified design and security requirements.
This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at work site if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.
1. Maintains Windows and Linux server operations part of the UTAPS - CDI system.
2. Manages continuous operations of the UTAPS - CDI content management system, minimizing system downtimes and providing excellent system performance.
3. Ensures secure server and data access according to business rules and state requirements.
4. Leads the development of web tools for data exchange, processing, and analysis.
5. Supervises and supports activities performed by the system's Database Administrator.
6. Reports and completes special projects as assigned by the supervisor (i.e. the Principal Investigator).

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalency in a related area and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Strong leadership and organizational skills highly preferred to prioritize conflicting deadlines and support needs of sponsors and external customers, excellent development skills, critical thinking, and effective communication.
Additional experience with:

*MS SQL Server. Azure experience highly desirable.
