Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
Codes hospital Inpatient and Outpatient medical records. Assigns ICD-9-CM and CCD-10-CM diagnosis and procedure codes along with CPT surgical codes to ensure accurate and timely statistics while supporting the financial stability of the organization. Ensures compliance with reimbursement requirements including Prospective Payment System.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School education required.
College level degree preferred.
Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology required.
Good understanding of pharmacology and pathophysiology preferred.
Extensive knowledge of organization, structure and conventions of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding systems required DRG / APC assignment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three to five years Inpatient/ Surgical Day Care coding required in a teaching facility.
MS DRG coding experience required.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
CCS certification or RHIA or RHIT registration required.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with medical staff, Business Office and Quality Management Staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to perform all physical activities associated with filing and medical records retrieval.
Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position and its location.
