Then you should join Lockheed Martin Space's Optical Payload Center of Excellence (OPCoE) for space applications as a High Energy Laser Systems Senior Engineer. You will have a broad range of responsibilities across the product lifecycle including system architecture development, bid & proposal development, requirements and specification development, design review preparation and conduct, and weapon system integration and test support. Our work spans a range of power levels from 10's of kilowatt class systems for close-in defense to defense-transformational megawatt-class strategic systems. We seek a dedicated engineer with a strong command of the physics and engineering fundamentals of directed energy weapons. Your responsibilities will include:
    • Remaining abreast of current and emergent high energy laser technologies, industry developments, and programs to foster engineering excellence, innovation, and cost reduction
    • Engaging in scenario-driven performance trades involving the system's power, aperture, wavelength, jitter, target acquisition-track systems and algorithms, adaptive optics complexity, power/cooling approach, and modes/states
    • Establishing performance budgets, operating guidelines, and documentation for prototype and deliverable high energy payloads and weapon systems
    • Supporting business planning, development and capture This position calls for a consistent, responsible, deadline-meeting professional who will: • Work under broad guidance from senior engineering and program leadership

    • Guide the work of junior and emerging engineers

    • Support customer reviews The Optical Payload Center of Excellence (OPCoE) enables new frontiers in visible-light and infrared systems, missile defense, space exploration and much more. Our members integrate authorities across the nation, within Lockheed Martin, our industry partners and leading research universities, into one fast-acting, collaborative group. ** Location is Sunnyvale facility with ability to travel to the Santa Cruz Facility as needed. We are looking for a strong background in electro-optical engineering, with demonstrated effective verbal communication. Ideally, you will have understanding of System Architecture from a subsystem perspective, including basic knowledge of how they combine to create a robust and reliable weapon system for the warfighter. We will look for you to develop concise and professional technical presentations to deliver briefings to peers, leadership, and US Government customers. You should be able to work in a classified environment. Ideally, you will have a background in electro-optical engineering and possess degree from an accredited program in a related discipline, such as Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or another related field. This roles does require willingness to travel. You would typically have a Bachelors and 5-10 years of professional experience, a Masters and 3-8 years, or a PhD and 0-5 years.     • High Energy Laser system design and engineering expertise
    • Understanding of laser sources, optics, software and algorithms for tracking and beam control, mechanical and electrical design and packaging
    • Experience with DOORS (or similar software) and requirements development/flowdown
    • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a government security clearance
    Desired Skills:
    • Current DOD clearance
    • Recent HEL weapon systems engineering and design experience
    • Advanced degree in Engineering or Science • Proposal writing experience
    • Ability to innovate and create intellectual property, demonstrated by patents, new products, or publications
    • Current or Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
