Job Description

Position Summary:

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is responsible for a variety of administration functions, including, but not limited to: greeting patients/families, scheduling appointments and tests in an efficient and timely manner, answering the telephone promptly and dealing with the caller's needs in a professional manner, collecting cash payments, issuing receipts and posting payments, daily extensive computer use navigating multiple applications. The PSR maintains an efficient patient flow through the registration process and provides excellent customer service to patients/families.

Essential Job functions:
  • Greets visitors, patients, and families in a friendly professional manner and directs them appropriately.
  • Communicates proactively with co-workers, physicians and patients regarding registration related information.
  • Informs patients of delay in physician schedules, assists with patient comfort while delayed
  • Enters charges and payments accurately in AthenaCollector
  • Accurately reconciles daily payments, documenting and reporting errors and/or voids
  • Provide New Patient Packet to all new patients to SMG- ensuring it is completed and updated in AthenaCollector, and scanned into the patients chart
  • Verbally verifies and updates patient demographic information- including but not limited to address, all phone numbers, insurance, HIPAA designees, PCP information, Usual Provider, e-mail addresses, etc…
  • Provides any additional paperwork at check-in to be completed by the patient prior to their exam- including but not limited to HIPAA designation form, Patient History Form, etc
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the insurance grid. Explains par and non-par insurance plans. Communicates participation status to patient upon check-in.
  • Appropriately refers applicable patients to financial counselors
  • Accurately documents incoming and outgoing referrals in AthenaCollector
  • Schedules appointments accurately and according to department guidelines- scheduling through the appointment tickler when applicable
  • Registers patients for the Patient Portal
  • Performs various clerical duties such as faxing, photocopying, scanning, filing and mailings.
  • Effectively communicates problems, concerns, or issues to the Office Supervisor / Manager appropriately and promptly.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules, covers for other staff when asked including other office locations
  • Demonstrates the ability to adequately follow downtime procedures
  • Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned
  • Provides assistance and/or transports customers in wheelchairs as needed
  • Escorts or directs customers to their destination as needed
  • Ensures front entrance is cleared and free from any hazards
  • Opens doors for customers when needed
Physical Job Requirements:
  • Pushing and Pulling, taking frequency into consideration
  • Physical strength to lift heavy objects, carts, or items, taking frequency into consideration
  • Physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account
  • Physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place

  • Balance is maintained during climbing, bending and/or reaching
Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
  • High School Graduate/GED/ Equivalent work, required
  • Vocational/Technical School/Diploma Program, preferred
  • Associate's Degree, preferred
  • 0-1 year related work experience, preferred
  • AHA HeartSaver CPR Certification within 30 days of hire, required
  • Valid Driver's License, required
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner, required
  • Basic proficiency in computer use, required
  • Knowledge of medical office and terminology, preferred
  • Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail)
  • Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment
  • EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems
Travel:
