Advises the Division of Physician Assistant Studies MPAS students from prospective students through graduation by utilizing professional advising and guidance skills. Interprets and explains university academic policy and procedure to assist students in making decision concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation.
This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah's response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.
1.Advising (one-on-one and track progress)
•Advise MPAS students at both SLC and St. George campus on program requirements, expectations, registration, requirements, formal paperwork, degree requirements, deadlines, and the Division and University of Utah policies and regulations.
•Facilitates students' academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, specialized tutoring, extended or intensive assistance with career decisions or similar needs. Meets with students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions.
•Address inquiries regarding Division/Program requirements, schedules, course catalog numbers and general information about the Program.
•Continually review, monitor, evaluate and maintain current student records/files to determine status for completion of program curriculum and program requirements as a whole.
•Schedule MPAS student meetings with their faculty mentor, composes agenda, and take minutes.
•Schedule Student Progress Meetings with all faculty, compose agenda, attend meeting and take minutes. Schedule follow up meetings with students as requested.
•Schedule any ASCC meetings with students and any required faculty and program director, attend meeting and take minutes and complete required documentation for student files.
•Collect and disseminate information to students, faculty and departments about changes in major requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate.
•Advise students via a variety of formats, including appointments, drop-in hours, phone, email, and chat
•Develop and present education programs designed to supplement or enhance academic preparedness
•Maintain extensive knowledge of University-wide policies and procedures and requirements of multiple academic programs in order to interpret complex policies and effectively communicate the information in an easily understood manner. Attend GAPA meetings to help stay up to date with university policy.
•Regularly exercises independent judgment when assessing program and student needs and determining appropriate courses of action to address those needs
•Assist the PA Director of Graduate Studies as needed to ensure program follows all Graduate Studies policies and requirements.
•Update and maintain current student information and graduate information; routinely run PeopleSoft student reports to update the Associate Chief and academic manager; provide program student demographic statistics for accreditation; run other various student reports as requested.
•Maintain data files for all MPAS students and graduates.
•Maintain students' academic files that include a record of the advising activity that takes place during each visit.
•Coordinate data compilation, statistical reports and correspondence.
3.Assist Admissions Director with:
•Review and screen application materials for program applicants
•Assist with student interview process, including notifying applicants of admission dates, assist with interview schedule
•Assist with admissions process as directed
•Maintain website with specific program updates
•Coordinate course schedules
•Act as liaison between faculty, students, administrators and other departments on procedural matters relating to appropriate educational program
•Ability to address inquiries regarding admissions; Division/Program requirements, schedules, course catalog numbers and general information about the Program
•Supports administrative functions such as planning and attending appropriate meetings, taking meeting minutes.
•Main point of contact for all event planning for MPAS education programs, including Graduation, Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Stethoscope Ceremony and other events as requested.

Previous experience in an advising, counseling or teaching environment is preferred.
