    This Protective & Marine Chemist will be responsible for completion of Commercialization activities for the United
    States and Canada.

    The Chemist is accountable for providing timely and accurate solutions to multiple company problems of moderate to difficult complexity and is required to develop toward an "expert" status in at least one broad or specialized area. Primary responsibilities include leading projects in the areas of service requests, quality support for current product lines, continuous improvement initiatives, technology transfers, RM support, and other control chemist activities. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with development team to support development and commercialization of new technologies.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
    • Contribute to the assessment, development, reformulation, quality, maintenance, and enhancement of products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.
    • Accountable for the solution of complex technical problems (product/process) and demonstrating significant knowledge and use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, and instruments.
    • Accountable for providing timely and accurate solutions to multiple company problems of moderate to difficult complexity and to develop methods of moderate complexity, when necessary, as an individual contributor or team member or team leader. This position requires development toward "expert" status in at least one broad area or a related specialized area.
    • Acts as a resource to other employees technically and in project management.
    • Provide technical support to marketing, sales, and manufacturing to help provide an orderly flow of product and information to Sherwin-Williams customers.
    • May independently lead projects and groups with limited to no supervision.
    • Travel for technical conferences and product commercialization support
    • Provides outside customer service
    • Train or mentor new or lower level chemists and technicians
    • Adhere to company safety policies and laboratory documentation.
    • Additional duties as assigned

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS
    1. FORMAL EDUCATION:
    • Required:
    • Bachelor of Science Degree AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each.

    • Preferred:
    • Master's Degree or higher in Polymers & Coatings or other Science related area

    2. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
    a. Required:
    • 5+ years of coatings specific industry experience

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
    • Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
    • Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
    • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
    • May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees.
    • May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
    • May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.
    • May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
    • Work surfaces may include concrete.
    • Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
    • Must be able to operate a computer and communicate via the telephone
    • Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.

    TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
    1. Required:

    • Experience with solvent-borne and water-borne epoxy and urethane chemistries.
    • Good organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Good project management skills
    • Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
    • Practical understanding of spectral measurement data
    • Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
    • Math knowledge
    • Analytical chemistry and the ability to extend it beyond the realm of coatings
    • Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.
    • Ability to adapt and change quickly in response to new situations/demands.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Design of Experiment

    2. Preferred:
    • Experience with solvent-borne and water-borne epoxy and urethane chemistries.
    • Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
    • Practical understanding of spectral measurement data
    • Proficient in statistics and data analysis.
    • Design of Experiment
    • Analytical chemistry and the ability to extend it beyond the realm of coatings
    • Creative thinking

    Travel Up to 15%

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment without now or in the future requiring sponsorship for employment.
    • Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each.
    • 5+ years of coatings specific industry experience
