We are seeking a Technologist I to perform a wide variety of detailed and sequential tasks to review and interpret donor suitability and laboratory tests in accordance with regulatory, manufacturer requirements and Standard Operating Procedures, in order to release blood products for transfusion. This is a trainee position for Technologist II in our Product Manufacturing and Control department.
Principal responsibilities of this position include (but not limited to) the following:
Receive collection, production, and quality control release documentation and review for completeness
Generate, interpret, resolve, and review pre-release reports prior to uploading test results
Upload test results; resolve transfer error messages according to written Standard Operating Procedures
Verify primary and subsequent testing profiles are complete; resolve discrepancies by contacting testing personnel and/or adding subsequent test profiles
Identify and quarantine components requiring further testing (e.g. CMV, HLA typing)
Release components suitable for patient use according to Standard Operating Procedures
Perform non routine release, including those requiring Medical authorization
Follow up on positive test results; performing lookback, withdraw, donor deferrals, and customer notification according to Standard Operating Procedures
Coordinate and perform all Batch Quarantine activities
Enter, correct, and verify donor antigen and antibody results in LIS
Receive and enter confirmatory test results in LIS. Apply deferrals and deferral change reason based on confirmatory testing
Audit/update donor accounts.
Requirements for this position include:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific or quality-related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and direct-relevant experience.
Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
Experience in batch record review and Incident Report writing and investigations preferred.
This position requires incumbent to have the ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime, as well as the ability to take on-call responsibility as assigned
Extensive computer work, to include viewing of computer display, is a continuous job condition encountered in the performance of this job
Sitting is a frequent job condition encountered in the performance of this job
Rarely, substantial overtime is encountered in the performance of this job
This position involves infrequent direct exposure to blood borne pathogens
As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to patients, incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or emergency operations.
