    Job Description

Job Description The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to perform weld residual stress testing and analysis on a variety of components supporting the current and future naval fleets. In this hands-on position, the successful candidate may be responsible for developing and executing plans for laboratory and in-situ mechanical testing, building and exercising finite element analysis models to evaluate stresses present from fabrication processes, and developing analytical models and tools that improve the current state-of-the-art with welding simulations. This position provides an opportunity for a candidate to integrate a foundational understanding of materials science, heat transfer, and finite element analysis methods. The successful candidate must be motivated to maintain cognizance of their own tasks while working as part of a highly collaborative team of experienced engineers and advisors. This position also provides visibility beyond the base organization as it requires frequent interactions with other areas of the business. In this position, the successful candidate will be empowered to improve their testing, analytical, and collaboration skills through challenging work assignments, mentoring, and in-house training programs.
