The Director, Human Resources is a critical driver of the market supporting a dynamic sales and operations (distribution) business. This role will be key to transforming the culture and serve as the business partner for the EVP and executive team for the business. The Director, Human Resources will consult with business leaders on strategic direction and critical priorities aligning people implications. This role will be a leader who builds an inclusive culture and drive a diverse talent pipeline.

This role is supporting 1,000 employees in a union environment.


Responsibilities
  1. Engage and partner to support and develop the alignment of business and people strategy to drive the business strategic plan.
    • Act as strategic thought partner with the leadership teams.
    • Serve as a cutting-edge partner for best practice HR initiatives, and a key leadership presence with business and functional leaders.
    • Work in partnership with the Total Rewards COE on Total Rewards planning, issues and anomalies to drive a true pay for performance culture.
    • Build strong relationships with business leaders based on respect and trust, in order to partner effectively, influence decision making, and coach on a range of confidential and sensitive issues.
    • Partners with peer HR business partners to ensure alignment and collaboration on talent management processes across the business.
  2. Diagnose, define and deliver organizational insights as well as change initiatives across the business.
  3. Supports and drives talent management agenda including workforce planning, performance management, employee and labor relations and employee development.
    • Lead the implementation of structure and talent moves/upgrades to ensure the right roles, people and capabilities are in place to deliver strategic imperatives.
    • Work in partnership with the Talent Acquisition and DE&I to drive talent management strategies.
    • Translate annual and long-term business plans into talent, succession and organizational strategies.
    • Develops, coordinates and maintains an effective succession plan for key talent / positions in the business.
  4. Develop a deep understanding of the business' performance drivers and metrics in order to deliver efficient and effective programs and solutions that will enhance business performance.
  5. Manages the HR team in the market; assigns duties, provides direction and training.
  6. Act as subject matter expert on Human Resource matters.
    • Ensures compliance with HR policies/practices.
    • Stays current and maintains compliance with federal and state regulations.
    • Consults with legal and manages employee disciplinary actions and facilitates resolution.
  7. Administers, trains and monitors the performance management process.
  8. Through local HR, conducts new employee orientation for all new hires.
  9. Acts as liaison between the business and HR COEs, including Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, HR Operations and Learning and Development.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Business, Human Resource Management or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in related area.
  • PHR certification preferred.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Union experience
  • Experience supporting a sales / commercial and operations business as an HRBP in a union environment, including driving results and business / organizational transformation.
  • Ability to handle information in a confidential manner.
  • Expert communicator and presenter.
  • Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including talent and performance management; organizational design and change management; total rewards; employee relations; diversity, equity and inclusion; performance management; and respective employment legislation.
