Assistant General Counsel - Operational

Farmington, Connecticut

To provide legal support and counsel to all business areas of ConnectiCare, Inc. and its affiliated companies (the "Company") in furtherance of the Company's strategic and tactical objectives; to participate, as a key member of the Legal Department, in controlling risks and potential legal liability.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for providing legal advice directly to clients in all operational areas including but not limited to, product development, marketing, sales, eBusiness, product administration, health services, and finance to control legal risks and assist in meeting Company objectives.
  • Responsible for reviewing, drafting and overseeing Company membership agreements, ASO agreements and other plan documents.
  • Responsible for reviewing and overseeing Company regulatory filings.
  • Responsible for keeping up-to-date on and assessing the potential impact on the Company of federal and state law and regulatory changes; for informing (orally and in writing) clients and senior management about applicable changes in legislation, regulations and case law; and for assisting in the implementation of such changes consistent with Company objectives. Analyzes and provides input regarding proposed legislation and regulations.
  • Responsible for participating on key Company and EmblemHealth operational committees and teams.
  • Responsible for other projects and duties assigned.

Qualifications:

  •     Law Degree from an accredited law school
  •     Admission to, and good standing in, the Connecticut bar
  •     At least 6 years of insurance regulatory, health insurance, and/or managed care experience or the equivalent
  •     In-house legal department experience at a health insurance or managed care company a plus
  •     Litigation experience a plus
  •     Experience counseling clients on ERISA and HIPAA and related privacy matters a plus
  •     Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  •     Customer-focused approach to legal issues
  •     Excellent educational credentials and professional references
