Job Description
Associate and Intermediate engineers who work in the Ohio Class - Power Plant Electrical Engineering unit are responsible for providing direct support for Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems and related electrical systems for the Ohio Class Fleet and S8G Prototype platform to fulfill a primary mission of the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL).
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Develop, test and maintain Power Plant I&C Systems for the Ohio Class Fleet and S8G Prototype platforms
- Interface with stakeholder personnel from the Navy, internal NNL organizations, BPMI, Shipyards, RPCO, and Naval Reactors to actively support the Ohio Class Fleet and S8G Prototype
- Provide timely and technically correct guidance to assist in emergent fleet issues
- Work independently to assess and troubleshoot S8G I&C systems on an emergent basis
- Initiate, develop, and support the execution and implementation of engineering research and design projects

Required Skills
Associate:
- BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university required.
Intermediate:
- BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
- MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or
- Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
- SRE Qualification
Preferred Skills
- 2.5 GPA and above on a 4.0 scale.
- Strong desire to learn the technical details of shipboard I&C systems
- Desire to provide technical support and emergent troubleshooting for Fleet and Prototype systems
- Previous experience problem solving on a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities in guiding individuals and groups on a multi-disciplinary project.
- Good written communication skills with an ability to articulate technical ideas in a clear & concise manner
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication that will be essential in the candidate's ability to contribute effectively in a teaming environment
- Demonstrated leadership skills through previous work and/or academic experience
- Co-op, internship or prior work experience in a technical field
