The main job of the Planning Analyst is to assist the SDAD Planning Group Head and SDAD Management and to play a supporting role with the planning, reporting and administration function within the Specialized Finance Department, which covers products ranging from Project Finance across the Americas (North and Latin America), Corporate Finance in Latin America, Municipal Finance and Real Estate Finance in the U.S. as well as US Private Placement products. The Planning Analyst is expected to provide support and to assist delivering high-quality information to the SDAD Planning Group Head as well as SDAD Management to efficiently handle their area of responsibility. This position reports directly to the SDAD Planning Group Head. The Planning Analyst will be a supporting member of all three functional teams (Financial Planning Team, Credit, Compliance and General Affairs Team, and Strategic Planning Team) within the SDAD Planning Group.
Assist in the preparation and gathering of data for the analysis of the overall portfolio of the entire department to present to SDAD Management and Senior Management of the Americas Division.
Assist in providing summary reporting and analysis. Interact with various departments, groups within the bank to compile information necessary to be reported to senior management.
Assist in financial analytics / budget and asset usage forecasting as well as deal inventory information management, etc.
Assist in planning and executing SDAD Management's needs regarding business trips, meetings, events (e.g. preparation of agenda, materials, logistics, etc.).
Assist SDAD Management in preparing reports in Japanese and/or English as required from time-to-time.
Assist management on enforcement of departmental compliance in terms of policy and procedures (both credit and business operation).
Act as supporting member of all three teams (Financial Planning Team, Credit, Compliance and General Affairs Team, and Strategic Planning Team) within the SDAD Planning Group.
Quantitative thinker with excellent Excel skills; business modeling, decision management, or finance experience preferred.
Quickly build knowledge of SMBC's suite of bank products.
Ability to work to tight deadlines on a range of tasks at any time.
Ability to work independently, self-motivated, driven and task oriented.
An ability to multi-task, handle on-going tasks as well as ad-hoc issues that demand immediate attention.
Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills.
2 to 5 years of comparable or relevant experience.
Experience at a corporate bank or other financial institution in a planning, reporting and administration function is required.
BA / BS required, MA / MS / MBA preferred
English fluency is required, Japanese fluency is not required but preferred.
Software Systems / Programming Languages:
Familiarity with Loan IQ, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Lotus Notes.
