The Technical Writing Lead for the Security team is a naturally curious, resourceful researcher and creative problem-solver"a self-starter with the drive to take initiative and pursue the information needed to deliver outstanding technical content for our organization.

This individual will serve as a critical contributor to our Security organization to work with a variety of stakeholders and subject-matter experts to dig deep into the machinery that keeps the Salesforce platform secure, and write documentation that helps our engineers design, build, and deploy securely-built features. You'll write and edit material for high-level overviews and task-based developer guides, working with complex technical concepts and forging concrete examples. You'll also contribute to newsletters and blogs, and influence internal content strategy.

We are looking for an experienced and exceptional writer with a creative and solution-oriented mindset, deep understanding of business objectives and the ability to adapt to fast-changing priorities.

Salesforce Engineering powers all application development at Salesforce with leading-edge services, tools, and frameworks. This role will work with the Security Engineers who design and implement the technology that prevents data breaches and protects the Salesforce infrastructure from cyber attacks. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to understand and document the services, tools, and frameworks that enable Salesforce engineers to develop secure systems.

In cooperation with the other security writers, you'll plan and maintain your own backlog of content deliverables and manage stakeholder expectations. You'll work with architects, engineers, data modelers, product owners, and whomever else knows the material. You'll also have the opportunity to drive and influence content strategy and contribute to internal communications at Salesforce. Our ideal team member has the following abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication and data presentation skills.

  • Understands software engineers and their pain points and motivations.

  • Previous experience writing technical documentation for an engineering audience.

  • Has a working knowledge of cloud providers and service offerings. General knowledge or experience in cybersecurity a plus.

  • Curiosity, willingness to learn and technical acumen are essential qualities for success

  • Can carve out focused time on a busy day to get work done independently.

  • Can dig deep into technology and troubleshoot issues independently.

  • Can be persistent and creative in order to get the information needed to get the job done.

  • Deadline-driven, with a proactive mindset to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

  • Ability to take ideas from concept to completion, meet deadlines, and follow-up swiftly and thoroughly are critical to success in this role.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to collaborate and take constructive feedback from co-workers and stakeholders, and give constructive feedback to others in a concise, clear, and professional manner.

  • Ability to take direction, feedback and guidance from management and provide frequent project updates to ensure alignment with team goals.

  • Comfortable and effective with rapidly shifting priorities and stakeholders.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and communicate priorities to competing stakeholders for continued progress.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a STEM field or an English degree, or equivalent experience

  • Excellent English writing and editing skills

  • 5-6 years or more of experience writing and editing developer documentation

  • Knowledge of Confluence, HTML, or other web-based authoring tools

  • Experience with software development tools and practices (version control, development environments, testing)

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies

  • Ability to write API documentation for programming languages such as Java, Python, and C++

  • Experience with cloud computing, web services, SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS

  • Familiarity with relational databases and related concepts

  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once

  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Great people and communication skills

  • Focus on quality and details

  • Strong team player

  • Knowledge of DITA and structured authoring is a plus
