This is a salaried exempt level position.

Job Summary:
ADM Bioproducts is seeking a superintendent with the leadership skills to lead a dynamic team to make the lysine refining operation the best in the world. This department takes lysine broth from the fermentation department and refines it into lysine for animal consumption.

As a member of the Bioproducts production team, this colleague will have the opportunity to lead and develop 20 to 30 hourly and salary employees. The successful candidate will contribute to driving process improvement projects involving a cross-organization team of scientist, operational personnel, business teams, and other engineers.

This position is responsible for many of the day to day activities as well as long-term planning for the lysine refining process department. They own the key performance indicators for the department. The superintendent will champion continuous improvement utilizing performance excellence strategies and methodologies throughout the department to development personal, manage the chemical/mechanical processes, and supervise the successful implementation of improvement projects. This position is also responsible for tracking and understanding department costs, yields, quality, process performance, and mentoring production engineers.

Job Functions:
  • Making the safety and wellbeing of our employees, customers, and visitors a top priority. This includes enforcement of all company and location requirements for personal safety, process safety, environmental compliance, and quality assurance.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and take ownership of the Focused Improvement efforts in their area.
  • Issue guidance and establish a proper review and response process to allow reports to successfully operate the plant to meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets by adhering to Structured Management System principles.
  • Analyzes existing processes for cost savings, reliability, and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Interact with maintenance, controls, process, and quality personnel in planning for and the development of process improvements.
  • Advocate for resources to make the department a success.
  • Ensure effective training and mentoring of department operations staff.
  • Availability to support 24/7 plant operations.
  • Provide directions and priorities to all direct reports.
Job Requirements:
  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of plant operations and managerial experience preferred
  • Demonstrated problem solving
  • Good written and verbal communication skills vital to relay results and performance to key stakeholders and to drive success in operations staff.
  • Ability to manage intradepartmental relationships across company job functions. This position interact with various engineers, plant personnel, commercial stakeholders, and research personnel.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks is critical to effectively managing the improvement of the department.
  • Gain general knowledge of operation of process, regulatory requirements, and financial understanding of the manufacturing costs related to refining equipment and processes.
  • Effective interaction with multiple employees and managers to prioritize demands.
  • Continuous improvement utilizing independent judgment to solve problems.
  • Proactive participation in safety, environmental, and quality activities is expected to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Employee is expected to ensure development of colleagues through training and mentoring activities.
Bioproducts produces amino acids and hydrocolloids using fermentation and various purification processes to produce liquid and dry products for human and animal consumption. This facility operates around the clock, 365 days per year.
