The TripActions Legal team is looking for an experienced attorney to join as its first Legal Director, Commercial. This is a leadership role on a talented and hardworking team, and we are looking for a passionate, authentic, creative lawyer to bring ownership and vision to the commercial legal function. In addition to personally handling contract negotiations with strategic accounts, you will manage the existing commercial legal team and scale quickly to support the TripActions global sales team across customer segments.

What You'll Do:

  • Have primary responsibility for customer contract processes and negotiations across customer segments and product offerings worldwide 
  • Build, manage, train, and mentor the TripActions commercial legal team, including an evolving mix of counsel and analyst/contract manager roles across regions
  • Develop and implement efficiencies in the commercial negotiation process in collaboration with Sales and Operations leadership, including automation and self-service options where appropriate 
  • Partner with field sales, deal desk, finance, customer success, and product to shepherd strategic enterprise deals to efficient resolution in line with company goals
  • Build and improve enablement and training programs for the sales team on negotiation best practices and relevant legal issues
  • Take individual responsibility for reviewing and negotiating strategic upmarket deals and as needed to meet EOQ timelines 
  • Contribute positively to the culture of the TripActions legal team and the company as a whole

What We're Looking For:

  • NY or CA bar admission in good standing
  • At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, though more is welcome. We are looking for significant experience negotiating strategic customer agreements for B2B SaaS/technology companies. Both prior in-house experience and prior management experience are required for this leadership role
  • Solid grasp of US and EU privacy issues that emerge in cross-border SaaS contracting, with the ability to handle routine GDPR customer questions and negotiate data processing agreements in partnership with the Privacy legal team
  • Ability to work effectively with Sales leadership to prioritize EOM/EOQ resources, handling peak demand with grace under pressure
  • Ability to hire, train, manage, and retain talented, motivated people for the commercial legal team in line with TripActions' company goals and values
  • Excellent communication skills are absolutely essential; you should be comfortable, confident, friendly, and be able to explain complicated issues at the right level of detail
  • Strong client service orientation, with high emotional intelligence and the ability to manage cross-team interpersonal dynamics
