Under the direction of the Exercise Research Center (ERC) manager, responsible for implementing exercise intervention protocols for study participants in accord with client study protocols. Within established study protocols, will design safe and effective individual exercise programs as requested by the research investigator(s), based upon human performance testing. Will supervise exercise sessions in accordance with American College of Sports Medicine guidelines. Will also assist with cardiopulmonary exercise testing and other fitness measurements.The incumbent works under the general supervision of the ERC manager and uses judgment in performing routine responsibilities within the framework of program/study protocol, policies and procedures.

  • Supervise exercise training sessions for research participants, in accordance with ACSM guidelines.
  • Collect research data from study participants and transfer data to study database in a timely and efficient manner, according to study protocol.
  • Design safe and effective individual exercise prescriptions, monitor and document progression of study participants within parameters of standardized study protocol.
  • Deliver and track exercise education sessions for study participants.
  • Monitor and track adherence to study exercise goals and report the same to study staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of exercise sessions and report to the ERC manager for accurate billing to clients.
  • Maintain regular telephone or email contact with study participants to encourage compliance to study goals. Report participant adherence issues to research coordinator and staff.
  • Communicate with ERC manager regarding issues pertaining to exercise testing, exercise sessions, and participant compliance and data management.
  • Assist with screening visits and exercise/metabolic testing as needed.
  • Lead or assist in curriculum development, creation of educational materials, and exercise training programs.
  • Conduct exercise testing assessments, including 6-minute walk testing, 1-repetition max and 10-repetition max strength testing, 30-second chair stand testing, Short Physical Performance Battery testing, grip strength testing, among others.
  • Lead virtual group exercise sessions by video when necessary, including exercise demonstrations and the delivery of exercise education.
  • Responsible for keeping a clean and sanitary environment; includes wiping down exercise machines, laundering towels, and tidying locker rooms.

  • Minimum of Bachelors degree in exercise science or physical education.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience performing exercise prescription and testing with adults. Experience working with adults with cancer and other disease preferred.
  • Current certification in CPR and AED required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required within six months.
  • ACSM or ACE certification preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting ECG's a plus. Excellent interpersonal and strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work varied hours in the early morning to early evening and on weekends, 24 hours per week to start with the potential to increase to 30 hours per study needs.
  • Familiarity with intervention studies a plus.
  • Must exhibit dependability and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Hourly compensation DOE.
