This position is within the Utah Cancer Registry in University of Utah Health Sciences. The Utah Cancer Registry promotes public health in Utah by collecting and managing cancer incidence and mortality data for the state. This position will support the Registry in receiving, processing, and managing confidential electronic health data using a variety of software packages.
The incumbent will create and maintain databases, perform data entry and quality control activities to maintain correct data in the databases, document department procedures, and utilizes software to generate metrics and develops actionable recommendations. Provides support to department teams by collecting and analyzing data and reporting results.
This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah's response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.
1.Reviews and analyzes incoming and existing data and data files for consistency, missing data elements, and quality
2.Develop, document, and support standardized and/or customized datasets and reports from Utah Cancer Registry databases
3.Creates and maintains data collection tools and databases using MS Access, REDCap, Qualtrics, or similar
4.Creates and maintains data dictionaries and procedure documents
5.Perform data linkages and quality control the linkage to ensure accuracy
6.Support communication and data exchange with external organizations
7.Enters data into and edits data in databases
8.Test and quality control data management systems
9.Trains department staff on new databases, software, and activities
Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalency and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
•Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail
•Experience in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting data
•Knowledge of at least one query or programming language such as SAS, R, Python, or SQL
•Experience with database systems and computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office and Microsoft Access.
•Knowledge of data collection tools such as REDCap and Qualtrics.
•Computer, software and network troubleshooting skills
•Communicating with team members with diverse skills and expertise
