Job Summary

Our research group, led by Dr. Yelena Wu at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, is seeking a Study Coordinator (SC) to join our energetic team. The SC will be responsible for working with a collaborative research team on multiple behavioral research studies, including randomized controlled trials. Our current trials funded by the National Institutes of Health and American Cancer Society are focused on skin cancer prevention among children and families, including in school settings and via telehealth. Other ongoing initiatives involve mHealth interventions and interventions for young adults at risk for skin cancer. The SC will have opportunities to work on manuscripts and presentations and to support grant preparation.

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in a relevant field of study (see Qualifications below). Prior research experience and knowledge of data analysis methods (e.g., in SPSS ) is preferred but not required. The successful applicant will be able to work closely with a team, have excellent interpersonal skills for working with community groups and other research participants, and have excellent organizational skills.

This position involves in-person duties in our office space at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and on site in community settings for research study implementation. Some teleworking is also an option.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at HCI if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms


1. Helps to develop study protocols for behavioral research studies and implements protocols with study participants.

2. Monitors enrollment goals and initiates strategies to promote enrollment and participant compliance. Coordinates and performs responsibilities related to research participants including determining participant population availability, developing informed consents and screening materials, screening and recruiting participants (e.g., in-person and via phone), scheduling visits, obtaining informed consent, answering participant inquiries, overseeing study visits and acting as a liaison between participants and the research team.

3. Recognizes, tracks and reports adverse events and protocol deviations.

4. Manages quality control, completion and submission of study related documentation; prepares reports for organizations and agencies.

5. Develops and maintains participant databases, including participant tracking logs and electronic data capture tools (REDCap, Qualtrics). Uses Microsoft Office software programs to maintain study records.

6. Attends and participates in investigator and staff meetings. Advises team regarding specific study assignments and timelines.

7. Supervises, mentors and trains new or other research staff. Works closely with a team to implement research studies and other research-related projects.

8. Prepares, submits and maintains Institutional Review Board ( IRB ), National Institutes of Health ( NIH ), and other regulatory documents and research correspondence.

9. Represents the research program at professional meetings.

10. Collaborates with the Principal Investigator in the development and writing of grant proposals, manuscripts, and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalency required. IRB CITI Course in the Protection of Human Research subjects certificate obtained within six months of hire and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Some departments may require IATA DGR training within six months.
