Sr. Director of Software Engineering

We’re looking for an influential engineering leader to provide strategic direction on initiatives with significant impact to the Finance organization. This role provides a considerable opportunity for ingenuity, as this individual will work as a key leader to re-imagine our core Financial System (Ledger) and financial data environment.  The leader will be responsible for driving the technology strategy, gaining alignment with the business and peer technology organizations, and leading solution delivery.  

The leader will need to set a high bar when it comes to running a well managed software engineering and operations team.  They will ensure their teams are exceeding Capital One enterprise and industry standards for well built software.  They will also make sure that their team is running a closely managed operations space while supporting critical business processes in a - you build it, you own it environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to a dynamic team throughout the software development life cycle in support of various Finance needs

  • Collaborate with architects, other teams, product owners, and software engineers to drive implementation of robust capabilities and experiences.

  • Influence with a strong positive attitude: driving consensus across cross functional leaders and teams

  • Ensure adherence to continuous improvement practices as required to meet quality / time to market imperatives

  • Recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead the best application engineering talent.

  • Take ideas and concepts, and visualize them in ways such that they are communicated effectively and compellingly for internal leaders, partners and customers, thereby building strong partnerships, consensus and alignment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

  • At least 9 years of experience in software engineering

  • At least 7 years of people management experience

  • At least 3 years of experience with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • 15+ years of experience managing software engineering teams

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience for finance, risk management, or audit applications

  • 8+ years of experience in Agile practices

  • 5+ years of experience working with COTS products

  • 3+ years of experience working with Amazon Web Services

  • 3+ years of experience with microservices based architecture and streaming technologies
