Description

The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applicants for an Accounting Assistant to assist in post-award accounting support. The overall responsibility of this position is to gather and process financial transactions for WV Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) activities, and to provide accounting assistance to researchers as well as contract and expense tracking support. The mission of WVCTSI is improve the health of West Virginians by building infrastructure and statewide collaborations to enable clinical and translational studies; by developing successful researchers throughout the state of West Virginia; by supporting grant applications to federal and private funding agencies; and by developing outreach to the citizens of WV. This position will work across all WVCTSI cores and programs.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Maintenance of accurate and complete financial records and documentation.

  • Prepare financial documents including service agreements and create requisitions in the WVU Mountaineer Marketplace in accordance with the policies and procedures of West Virginia University, the WVU Research Corporation and WVCTSI. Maintain an up-to date status of accounts of the WVCTSI.

  • Process and analyze purchase orders, initiating cancellations, finalizing open orders and other actions as necessary to finalize transactions and close out accounts.

  • Process inventory forms and tags as needed. Maintain file of inventory tags.  

  • Monitor and reconcile assigned accounts and projects, prepare financial reports as needed.

  • Support staff with travel settlements and reimbursement.      

  • Provide financial support to WVCTSI members as needed. 

  • Assist in the year-end and grant close out.

  • Assist with WVCTSI budgeting process.

  • Comply with federal, state, accounting principles, WVU and WVU Research Corp policies, procedures and regulations.



Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or business-related field OR an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience. 
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in performing accounting activities preferred, with emphasis on experience in working with contract and payment of allowable expenditures with grant awards. 
  • Knowledge of 2 CFR 200 - Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and theories and their application to accounting problems.
  • Experience working in a position requiring great attention to detail & accuracy as well as confidentiality. 
  • Knowledge of utilizing accounting systems and related applications (e.g. Oracle, MyReports, MyExpenses, Chrome River etc.) as well as ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to rapidly acquire thorough knowledge of policies and procedures as needed to comply with University, State and federal regulations. 
  • Substantial ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and programs concurrently.
  • Skilled at building and maintaining positive relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators involved in sponsored research.
  • Skills in, or knowledge of, professional principles, legal and/or reporting requirements affecting extramurally sponsored projects.
  • Skilled at operating effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in preparing comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Proficient in the latest Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Adobe conversions and other related applications.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
