Job Summary: The Assistant Manager of Mid Office Accounting is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the daily Mark to Market report including preparation and issuance. Develops and maintains process for compliance and monitoring of trader deal sign-off reports and related contracts and confirmations. Develops complex models and presents analysis of Fuel Supply initiatives for both supply and trade books. Makes recommendations to Senior Manager of Corporate and Fuel Procurement Accounting for department process improvements.

Principal Duties:
  • Prepare or review the Mark to Market report including the analysis and validation of data related to physical purchases, bulk fuel sales, terminal liftings, terminal/pipeline fees and market price indices calculations and assumptions. Prepare and review midweek Solarc downloads and send to Petroleum Supply team for their use.
  • Responsible for Contract Administration related to Bulk Fuel Supply agreements including the investigation and appraisal of risk exposure and changes to Wawa's general terms and conditions that the counterparty requests.
  • Monitor the Traders' emails which summarize all RINs, physical and paper trade book deals entered into for the day. Review the Solarc/Excel systems daily to confirm that each risk component of the supply book deals, both physical and paper, are captured on time and accurately.
  • Notify Compliance Officer and Trader of potential policy violations. Where possible, notify the Trader when limits are being approached. Work with Compliance Officer and Trader to document violations and to discuss policy revisions and other possible alternatives to avoid future violations.
  • Develop complex evaluation models and reporting utilizing superior business acumen to analyze financial implications of Fuel Supply initiatives related to bulk purchase, bulk sale, rack contracts and hedging for both trade and supply books. Present results of analysis to the Senior Manager of Corporate and Fuel Procurement Accounting.
  • Act as first point of contact for Petroleum Supply team, Fuel IT, Back Office Accounting for all Mark to Market questions/issues. Coach Mark to Market users on how best to interpret and utilize the information into everyday decision making processes.
  • Work with senior traders to recommend timing to optimize realization of gains on futures.
  • Prepare or review the position report for terminals.
  • Act as first point of contact for Internal Audit and external auditors (to coordinate completion of required testing and internal control questionnaires).
  • Document and report on out of tolerance conditions in the financial metrics of the MTM to the Compliance Officer.
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to compliance and control, in the development of related technology systems such as Solarc. Serve as primary Finance contact for Solarc, working with Fuel IT to test and implement changes.
  • Lead special projects (analysis, reports, team and cross functional initiatives, etc.) and other duties assigned by Finance Management, including the CFO, Controller, and Senior Manager of Corporate and Fuel Procurement Accounting.
  • Work in conjunction with other departments within the Finance and Petroleum Fuel Supply teams.
  • Provide overall direction and support for team and monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence. Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when appropriate, and participate in hiring decisions.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors' degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, Finance or similar field preferred and five to seven years of accounting or Middle Office related experience
  • Four years or more supervisory experience; Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team in achieving strategic goals and objectives
  • Broad understanding of petroleum product purchasing and distribution alternatives, as well as petroleum industry price indices
  • Strong working knowledge of commodity trading and hedging activities preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting methods and procedures related to fuel
  • Ability to learn the use of specialized applications (MarketView, Solarc, ICE, FuelSmart)
  • Highly skilled in Excel.
