Job Title:          Heavy Duty Tow Operator

                        President & CEO Bill Gratzianna






The general obligations of this job are to service the needs of the motoring public in any facet that is necessary and safe,



Ø  Clean MVR to operate all company equipment

Ø  Clean criminal background

Ø  Class A License

o   TX Endorsements preferred

Ø  Up to date Passport

Ø  TRAA Certifications

o   1, 2&  3 preferred

Ø  Ability to work in inclement weather

Ø  Physical labor required

Ø  24/7/365 “On Call” response availability for emergency situations

Ø  Personal set of tools necessary to complete daily tasks

General Breakdown of Duties:

Towing and Recovery

·       Will primarily be a Heavy Duty Towing and Recovery operator

·       Will also be asked to assist in local transport runs, using tractors, landoll trailers, and heavy duty roll-backs

·       Will be asked to perform Light Duty tows in emergency situations when needed (i.e. police tows, nearby by luxury vehicles, etc.)

·       Transport runs (over 250 miles one way) on occasion

·       Various amounts of minimal road service

o   Jump Starts

o   Airlines

o   What is comfortable to be done on the road

·       Will be assigned to an On-Call team

5 On-Call teams rotate each weekend with multiple drivers on each team.  1 weekend as backup team, 1 as primary team, 3 weekends off baring an emergency you may be contacted.

·       May be called to operate specialty equipment on scene of a recovery other than a truck, i.e. bobcat, lull, etc.

o   Role will be to operate equipment as instructed on the scene

o   Will assist in clean-up of debris and spilled loads

o   Also will assist within shop to have recovery materials and equipment organized and accessible for use at any time

·       Will be scheduled to work 5 days a week, and follow on-call team rotation on off days.  Must be flexible with start times depending on needs of company, i.e. early scheduled runs and tows.

Shop and Yard Work

·       Perform vehicle releases as necessary

·       Communicate with dispatch regarding impound lot inventory information, vehicles ready for transport, COP status, etc.

·       Work along with supervisor to ensure every car is account for and vehicle processing is maintained and up to date

·       Assist Light Duty Operators with loading of vehicles when necessary

·       Maintain organization in trucks, daily pre-tripping of multiple vehicles, keeping tools all organized.




·       Arrive for shift 15 minutes early every scheduled day, dressed, equipped with necessary tools so as to not delay the start of the day;

·       Bring a positive attitude that adds to the team like atmosphere at O’Hare Towing Service;

·       Be prepared to work independently to accomplish many tasks;

·       Perform heavy duty tows as necessary, safely, damage free, and as professionally as humanly possible

·       Perform light duty tows as necessary, safely, damage free, and as professionally as possible,

·       Contribute a positive company image to all co-workers

·       Educate other operators about different equipment and challenges they may see in industry,

·       Work along with OTS management team to collectively make the company run more efficiently

·       Dress professionally, in company uniforms provided, with pants worn at waist with belt, shirt buttoned to chest, shirt tucked in, wearing proper steel-toed footwear, O’Hare Towing Service hats only, NO JEWELRY while working;

·       Maintain all company equipment in useable condition, check fluid levels, fuel levels, and ensure that equipment is in working order;

·       Complete daily chores at the beginning, end, and at any necessary point throughout the day, these include but are not limited to:

o   Removal of all trash and debris in yard

o   Cleaning of messes in lot from vehicles (debris, oil, trash, etc.)

o   Ensure that impound lot is maintained in a properly organized fashion

o   Keeping all auxiliary equipment properly fueled and maintained

o   Ensuring that all company equipment is easily accessible and removable in emergency situations

o   Removal of possessions of salvage vehicles

·       Assistance with mechanical projects that are felt comfortable assisting with,

·       Assistance in the removal of debris and cargo from roadway in “recovery” operations

·       Perform vehicle releases as necessary;

·       Ensure that company vehicles are fueled above ¾  tank to not delay any use of the vehicle;

·       Complete pre-trip inspections of company vehicles throughout the day to identify any issues with vehicle prior to their arrival;

·       Maintain the organization of car impound lot so that vehicles are easily accessible and removable;

·       Must maintain personal hygiene to appropriate levels, facial hair neatly trimmed, clean work clothes, regular bathing, etc.;

·       Must supply own basic hand tools for the completion of work, hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. more specialty tools will be available for use within shop;

·       Must supply own towing equipment that are necessary for daily duties being a heavy duty operator,

·       Must bring personal safety gloves, knife for cutting, flashlight, safety glasses;

·       Must be able to obtain a DOT medical card and be in good health condition to fulfill obligations of job;

·       Must be drug and alcohol free at all times within the workplace;

·       Complete the largest and smallest of tasks given in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
