Job Summary/Basic Function
Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant helps the Interlibrary Loan Staff with gathering, processing, and distributing library materials to customers. This position reports to the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONSANDRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Locates and retrieves books, audiovisual materials and periodicals from the various library collections and areas, and scans articles/book chapters for customers.
2. Uses Alma software to check library materials in and out.
3. Packages library materials being shipped to other libraries and distance learners, and opens returned mail and packages.
4. Delivers materials to Faculty members' offices and/or departments.
5. Performs other duties as assigned by the Interlibrary Loan staff and Resource Sharing Librarian.
6. Demonstrates the ability to work in and with diverse populations.
7. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
8. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.
Minimum Qualifications
Federal Work Study status is required.
Some knowledge of the Library of Congress classification and call number system required.
Working knowledge of using computers is required.
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of college education preferred.
Grade point average of 3.0 or above is preferred.
Second language proficiency is preferred.
Work Hours
This position will be scheduled weekdays during the daytime office hours of the Interlibrary Loan Department.
