As our global footprint continues to grow, we are looking for an Electrical Technician to join our Major Appliances Lab Team in Northbrook, IL!


As an Electrical Technician, you will operate machines that may include furnaces, ovens, hydraulic equipment, electrical test equipment, temperature indicating devices, tensile testers, analytical balances, meters, hand tools, and special laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrometers, environmental chambers with consoles, and radiation measuring devices to perform various testing. 

  • Examine test samples and read measuring instruments, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions.
  • Evaluate and test performance, provide feedback regarding issues and/or problems with test and data sheets and reviews test and construction data with supervisor.
  • Direct, build and/or adapt setup and test equipment to new situations, based on data sheets and instructions from engineering department personnel.  
  • Operate designated machines that may include furnaces, ovens, hydraulic equipment, electrical test equipment, temperature indicating devices, tensile testers, analytical balances, meters, hand tools, personal computer, and special laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrometers, environmental chambers with consoles, and radiation measuring devices. Perform routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area.
  • Receive instructions from and reports data to engineers and other laboratory personnel. May communicate with clients during the setup and performance of a test to demonstrate or otherwise illustrate equipment test methods and/or to discuss test results.
  • Communicate with UL field representatives to discuss additional follow-up tests, samples, equipment, methods and/or results.
  • Record observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and prepares data sheets and reports, as directed.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • May train staff in specific test methods.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

  • Associates degree or Vocational certification required. 
  • Experience with household appliances preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs assisted and unassisted.
  • Basic fundamental knowledge of Electrical/Electronic circuits.
  • Basic knowledge and use of workshop tools.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
  • Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
