CubeSmart is currently seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer to join the Information Technology team at our corporate office in Malvern, PA. The Lead Cloud Engineer will be responsible for the technical innovation and leadership of CubeSmart's enterprise store operating platform.

Working in collaboration with the hosting and infrastructure teams, this leader will own the technical delivery of the server side application, from requirements to successful delivery into production and then managing and enhancing it to ensure a seamless customer, team member and partner experience. This leader will adopt an agile yet stable and secure approach to development leveraging core engineering principles.

The Lead Cloud Engineer is expected to have a strong technical background with proven experience in building and delivering highly complex platforms. This leader is also expected to have experience with modern technologies, leveraging best practices in the areas of open source tech solutions, managing software development and agile methodologies. In addition, working with the Engineering Manager - Cloud and DevOps, this leader will build and lead a highly technical team of developers and engineers.

This role is expected to apply leading edge practices to solve business challenges and develop a culture of high performance, urgency, and productivity.

  • Embrace the vision to lead the transformation of currently leveraged outsourced application development model to an in-house model to include development of key business and customer facing solutions
  • Serve as the strategist who researches public and private Cloud technologies and frameworks, and creates reference architecture and implementations for the Cloud Automation engineers to follow
  • Completely own the technical delivery of the automated provisioning of cloud and cloud native application infrastructure stack using GitOps and Kubernetes Operators
  • Serve as the implementation partner and advisor to the Product Owner of the Enterprise Cloud Provisioning Stack
  • Lead the Cloud Engineering and DevOps teams to define/author infrastructure and deployment requirements; recommend, challenge, and validate Cloud services to meet new application/product needs
  • Work with the Cloud Architect to author clear and specific requirements, detailed design, conduct code reviews and approve pull requests for Automation implementations and mentor the team on cloud automation best practices
  • Responsible for compliance to ensure privacy, security of data/information on cloud platform/applications
  • Servant leader for the team, clearing their obstacles, studying how to make every team member successful and staying ahead of the team to avoid unpleasant surprises for the team thus actively ensuring delivery within the schedule and allocated budget
  • Lead and play a leadership role in sprint planning meetings to ensure that the team understands their objectives and has committed to completing their work on an agreed-upon timeline
  • Own the development environment, development tooling strategy and toolchains for effective and efficient delivery of software in support of the chosen methodologies
  • Build a culture of engineering excellence with a focus on performance, scalability, privacy, and security
  • Define, create, and serve as the custodian of the Cloud Automation and DevOps implementation Strategy
  • Ability to collaborate and hold the various development team members accountable for compliance to the Enterprise Technical Standards and Guidelines
  • Software development experience a must, with demonstrated affinity for continuous learning specifically in the technology domain and how to leverage it for building great reliable products
  • Bachelor' Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent related technical field
  • At least 6-8 years' experience building, leading, managing and supporting Cloud Platforms supporting omni channel commerce platforms
  • Hands-on experience with designing, building, and supporting microservices infrastructures in a hybrid cloud environment
  • Experience building containerized applications using GitOps, K8s, Service Mesh, K8s operators
  • Service oriented leader who possesses a true 24 7 support and service mentality
  • Experience leading development team, building roadmaps, and adopting principles and standards in the design, development, and delivery of solutions
  • Previous hands-on experience deploying and managing infrastructure with Azure, AWS, Kubernetes; experience with configuration management tools (Chef, Puppet)
  • Full knowledge of agile delivery, DevOps cycle, Release Management planning
  • Should possess technical experience in cloud infrastructure design and operation to recognize the quality, reliability, and scalability of your team's work
  • A strong desire for action and ownership; you take personal pride and joy from the output of your team and are continuously pushing the bar higher
  • Demonstrate hands-on and fluency in at least one complete stack (Java SpringBoot or JavaScript or Python with REST API, Graph QL, SQL, NoSQL, Graph DB's, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with either Test Driven development or Behavior Driven development with a clear understanding of the tool stack. Expertise in unit test, building Integration, smoke and regression testing suite, code coverage process, and pipeline setup
  • Experience using a project management/ticketing tool such as JIRA
  • A product mentality - the ability to define goals, consider trade-offs, prioritize, defend decisions, and execute
  • The ability to build relationships with stakeholders, help others grow in their careers, and create inclusive environments
