Launch is looking for a Preschool Assistant Teacher to support our summer and school year programs in Seattle. Our Preschool Assistant Teachers provide a safe, caring, academically and socially enriching environment for preschool children, ensuring the curriculum and activities are developmentally appropriate and meet all identified academic and development domains. This position performs activities that ensure the safety, involvement, and creativity of each individual in the group, and works cooperatively with the lead teacher(s) to discuss and aide in the implementation of daily plans in accordance with the current curriculum.

Through our preschool, before & after school, and summer programs, we provide a safe and enriching environment that prepares children for success in school and life. Our programs serve a diverse group of over 1,300 children ages 3-12 and are located on-site in 9 Seattle public schools and 3 community centers. Drawing on more than 40 years of experience, we serve as a proven model of effective programming and a passionate advocate for children, families, and communities.

What’s the schedule for this position?

Our hours of operation are 7:30am to 6:00pm; this position is currently scheduled from 9:30am to 6:00pm M-F.

Does this position include any benefits?

It does! These positions are eligible for paid leave time (17 days per year), 14 paid holidays, 401(k) participation (after 90 days), and a monthly ORCA card benefit of $50/month. It is also eligible for group medical, dental and vision coverage on the 1st of the month following 60 days of employment, and more!

This year all staff will also receive paid time off for one week during winter break (December 27th through the 31st, 2021). Additionally, Launch is currently offering a $500 incentive for staff hired between June 1st and September 30th, 2021 - should you leave within 6 months of employment the hiring incentive will be pro-rated for repayment.

What actions are you taking to keep children and employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic?

We have followed guidelines from the CDC, King County Public Health and other organizations in developing our health & safety protocols, which includes:

  • Multiple daily health checks for children and staff, including temperature checks
  • Requiring the use of masks for all employees and children at our sites (in accordance with WA state guidelines)
  • Curb-side drop-off and pick-up of children and limiting the entry of multiple individuals into our buildings.
  • Frequent cleaning and sanitation procedures throughout each day.
  • Practicing social-distancing, including limiting group sizes and keeping groups separated throughout the day.

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Complete the Department of Children Youth and Families state required Initial Certificate (12 credits) within 5 years of hire. (https://www.dcyf.wa.gov/sites/default/files/pubs/EPS_0026.pdf)
  • Commitment to continued professional development including trainings as required by various regulatory agencies.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working with preschool children (3-5 year olds) with knowledge and competence in:
    • Behavior management skills
    • Activity planning/coordinating

  • Proven ability to communicate with children and adults in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Ability to create versatile and varied age-appropriate activities for children of different ages and developmental stages.
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.

  • Strong organizational skills, demonstrated by (but not limited to) a safe, clean and effectively managed worksite and compliance with Launch’s confidentiality policy regarding child, family and employee information.
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn and enhance skills that promote Equity and Inclusion.
