Position Overview

This position will be housed at our Corporate office or offers remote work flexibility.


The ideal candidate will have significant in-depth experience with the mainframe operating system, its subsystems, and related program products. In addition, the person performing this role must have significant experience with VT AM, TCP/IP - with the proven ability to support, maintain and install these products. This role is responsible for the accurate, timely, and efficient daily operations of the mainframe system. This includes support software and operating systems. The role also provides support for any user-developed, proprietary programs or applications that depend on system support/operating system. Essential responsibilities include:

  • Monitor system component activity, performance, and efficiency to help improve mainframe system operation and identify potential problems before they occur.
  • Maintain and administer CICS/TS, VSE/POWER, Sort, FAQS ASO & PCS, TCPIP, Tape/Disk Managers, Luminex VTS, BIM-EDIT on the current and future mainframe environments.
  • Utilize statistics, analysis methods and utilities to troubleshoot issues with hardware/software components, data files and databases.
  • Generate and maintain software tables.
  • Create system control programs from vendor-supplied source code and materials as required.
  • Understand how to implement, administer, and monitor computer security at the software level. This includes evaluating security features in software programs in use.
  • Work closely with application programmers in their duties assisting them with resolving any questions or problems relative to their work. This includes providing information about systems or software that may not be documented.
  • Perform problem analysis of mainframe system/application issues and help the mainframe developers as needed.
  • Provide information to management/user personnel about the available system software features and provide instructions on how to use them most effectively with user applications.
  • Consult with all personnel about any problems they experience relating to system support software. This may include analyzing system or application dumps and triaging an issue until a resolution is found.
  • Plan for and install new software and new releases of existing software. This includes the operating system, major support software packages from outside vendors and monitoring/analysis software from outside vendors.
  • Document system software in use and how to use it, where this is not specifically addressed in software manuals.
  • Analyze the need for, design, create, and implementation of specialized software, procedures or job control, at the system level, for all users as needed. This includes the job control to create, maintain, backup/restore data files/ databases, and to recover the GBP systems in the event of a disaster situation.
  • Follow established Change Control procedures.
  • Perform routine DASD and VSAM Catalog space management.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to work various hours which includes all shifts, weekends and holidays.

  • Bachelors or master's degree in computer related field or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10+ years proven systems programming experience in an IBM mainframe environment.
  • Candidate should possess strong knowledge of IBM System z mainframe hardware (i.e. Systems BC12, Luminex VTS, HMC, DS8000 series disk, etc.).
  • Candidate should also possess strong knowledge of CICS/TS administration.
  • Candidate should have knowledge with the installation and upgrades of IBM operating system and components, including but not limited to, IBM software products, other OEM products.
  • Operational and/or systems administrator knowledge with Windows Server 2008/2012 is a plus.
