Position description
As a Mayo Clinic Surgical Tech you will become a vital member of a dynamic team at one of the world's most exceptional health care institutions. Our Nursing Care Model combines relationship-based care with an evidence-based approach. This allows for a stronger connection between patient and caregiver, and a more individualized, appropriate type of care. Our team performs a variety of surgical cases, including a strong Orthopedic practice.

The Surgical Technologist provides direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in the appropriate setting across the continuum of care. He/she communicates with the registered nurse about changes in the patient's clinical condition, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. The Technologist is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in the patient's condition or response to treatment. Assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors the level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments and necessary equipment.

Qualifications
Surgical Technician program graduate or student graduating from a Surgical Tech program.

Additional qualifications
AST membership, preferred. Surgical Technologist Certification, preferred.

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Flexibility (Works flexible hours, which include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends). Basic computer skills. Problem solving, verbal and written communication, and team building. Basic quality improvement concepts and techniques.

License or certification
Current BLS Certification.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $22.39 per hour.

8 hour shifts, with start times varying from 6:30 to 8:30am. May be adjusted based off the department needs.

Call is on average one night per week. Must be able to report to work within 30 minutes when on call.

On call every 5th weekend. Must be able to report to work within 30 minutes when on call.
On call 1-2 holidays per year.
