Responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Waste Water treatment facility, Land Application System, Offal, and the environmental needs of the Live Operations facilities to include hatchery and feed mill. Also responsible for managing environmental programs for facilities, coordinating with local/state government agencies, and producing all monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Knowledge of current local/state governmental codes and regulations related to wastewater, offal and pollution control.
Ensure compliance with all lawful regulations including wastewater, storm water, SPCC, air emissions, handling and discharge handling and disposing of solid waste regulations.
Coordinate with corporate environmental manager and regulatory agencies on continual permit compliance.
Ensure compliance with all testing and reporting requirements (i.e. protocol/logging waste handling with contract disposal).
Manage Wastewater Treatment through monitoring and reporting (activity in lagoons, pretreatment screening, DAF, CM, pumps and distribution system, storage tank, and filter system.
Oversee and manage wastewater full-treatment and/or pre-treatment systems.
Oversee and manage storm water system.
Oversee and manage tank systems, including secondary containment and collected water release.
Oversee and manage air emissions control systems including bag house, cyclones, and scrubbers.
Provide personnel training for permit/program compliance.
Coordinate with facilities management on operational and capital budgeting/cost issues to ensure that all systems are in compliance.
Maintain SPCC Plan requirements for BMP's and record-keeping.
Monitor mechanical wastewater equipment such as pumps, motors, electrical, etc.
Measure and monitor wastewater chemicals such as magnesium hydroxide, polymer and caustics (i.e. washing soap).
Perform tests and analysis utilizing laboratory procedures such as PH, DO (dissolved oxygen), and TKN (total kjeldahl nitro. water temperature, etc.)
Coordinate with corporate environmental manager on protocol/reporting requirements prior to crises.
Manage offal operations.
2 to 8 direct reports.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Science Degree from an accredited institution.
Grade 2 Wastewater License in the state of Alabama.
3+ years' experience in wastewater and wastewater leadership within an industrial/ commercial environment.
3+ years' experience in environmental management.
Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
3+ years direct experience within poultry and/or meat industry environment.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Demonstrated experience in project management/engineering in "best of its class" food processing company.
Applied CAD skill and knowledge.
Demonstrated proficiency with spread sheets and project management applications.
Technical knowledge of meat and/or other food processes within USDA/FDA regulated environment, including:
Formulation, forming, heating, cooking, cooling and freezing.
Packaging (bulk and bagged).
Belt and vibratory conveyors.
Wet cleaning systems.
Knowledge and familiarity with support systems, including:
Broilers, electrical distribution, ammonia refrigeration, freezers, hydraulics and plant air systems.
Sanitary building design and construction.
Waste treatment requirements.
Basic understanding of regulatory requirements.
Thorough understanding of modern preventative/predictive maintenance approaches.
Detailed knowledge of material balances/process yield equations.
Demonstrated proficiency in building effective relationships with outside agencies.
