Job Description

The Shop Goodwill Clerk demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision and Values, on behalf of Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois. The specific responsibilities of this role are quality control, inventory control, and shipping (wares, textiles, books or jewelry) to customers and other facilities to support the growth of Goodwill’s online sales.

Summarized Responsibilities

  • Fulfills works standards and quota as designated.
  • Provides exceptional customer service.
  • Properly prints inventory sheets, and packs, seals, and ships totes or items as assigned.
  • Examines items for quality and condition prior to shipment preparation.
  • Weighs items to determine the final shipment details.
  • Packages and prepares sold items for shipment.
  • Accurately label packages with the shipment and address details.
  • Navigate website platforms to ensure accurate shipping costs.
  • Transports items to the delivery dock via mail cart.
  • Assists with the transfer of items from the dock to the mail carrier.
  • Maintains two-communications with supervisor.
  • Identify and communicate errors and/or defective equipment to supervisor.
  • Assists in sorting, processing and organizing products for eCommerce.
  • Assists in posting and maximizing online posting percentage while maintaining a high average ticket.
  • Assists with photography and edits products and prepare written descriptions for sale on Goodwill auction site.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to ensure performance goals are met.
  • Performs merchandise handling tasks.
  • Adheres to all safety standards.
  • Stays abreast of company procedures by successfully passing all quizzes.
  • Maintains Goodwill dress code requirements and adherence to store scheduling.
  • In addition to the general qualifications listed above, physical demands for this position will include
  • regular use of a pallet jack, double stacker or other heavy equipment.
  • Maintains clean and orderly work area.



  • High school diploma or GED is recommended; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of logistics – shipping and inventory control preferred.
  • Knowledge of antique and designer products and pricing preferred.
  • Internet navigation proficiency.
  • Ability to meet production goals and KSMs relevant to the sale of high value items.
  • Results-oriented and driven to achieve goals.
  • Effective to good reading, writing and math skills relative to the role.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior that align with Goodwill’s Core Values.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, fostering two-way communication.
  • Demonstrates the ability to multi task.
  • Commitment to continued learning and engaged participation in mandatory trainings offered by Goodwill.


Work Schedule

An individual must be able to be work a flexible or irregular schedule.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee is frequently pushing, pulling, bending, reaching and lifting to 50lbs and carrying up to 25lbs frequently. Employee is frequently standing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment

Logistics safety sensitive area. Frequently exposed to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature, noise, fumes, dust, etc.) The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform their designated role satisfactorily.
