Position Summary

This position is the Principal Solutions Engineer for Customer Web and related Customer Care systems.   

The IT Solution Engineer job family provides technical leadership in design, development and implementation of IT solution deliverables. This could include the assessment and optimization of system design and review of user requirements. Provides technical direction to determine technical and operational feasibility of solutions that are integrated with the existing or defined IT network architecture and services standards, to meet clearly defined technical performance requirements. Develops prototypes of the system design and works with network, database, operations, technical support and other IT areas as appropriate throughout development and implementation processes in order to improve system resilience and reliability. Also provides IT Solution Engineering technical leadership to ensure that design, development, and testing activities conform to the strategic and tactical direction for individual initiatives. Job Responsibilities

  • Is recognized for external facing Web and Data Sharing technical expertise and leadership.  Acts as a senior authority for large multi-project programs or departments. Incumbent is highly skilled in industry best practice and contributes to development of broad implementation strategies and programs with enterprise-wide impacts.
  • Accountable for creating comprehensive technology platform solution designs that has impact across PG&E business for complex Customer Web projects.
  • Delivers training and presentations to high-level leadership and large groups to advise, consult and education on a technical topic that has large implications for PG&E.
  • Utilizes broad portfolio-building approach, detailed subject matter expertise and communication skills to create and present innovative solutions based on requirements.
  • Assignments are broad and highly complex and impact multiple in-flight initiatives, have major associated risks with high visibility, and can be sensitive or widely varied requiring expert judgment in applying and adapting techniques.
  • Collaborate with and often leads other domain specific (application, infrastructure, or information) Engineers, Architects, Product Specialists, System Design Engineers and technologists to complete IT deliverables.
  • Responsible for the full lifecycle technical implementation, with SME participation in; solution evaluation and selection, buy vs. build decisions, business requirements impact analysis. Generates technical approach and assists business in generation of business case for complex initiatives. 
  • Provides mentoring and coaching for other IT Solution Engineers in order to grow skills.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of IT engineering design and/or technical project implementation and leadership experience in the Web domain.
  • Experience with multi-tier enterprise technology environments
  • Experience managing and directing staff across diverse IT disciplines


  • AWS Certification
  • Experience managing senior/expert level IT staff
  • AWS Cloud experience
  • Experience with different Web Content Management Systems
  • Experience in working using agile framework
  • Excellent written and oral communications
