The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Software Project Lead (Wisk) to join our team in Mesa, AZ; Huntsville, Al; Hazelwood, MO; Long Beach, CA; Manassas, VA; or Plano, TX.

The selected candidate will join our software team working the Wisk joint venture and to help transform the future of urban mobility through safe, all-electric, autonomous flight. This role specializes in the ability to lead teams of typically 8 to 12 embedded software engineers, decompose work, organize, plan, integrate and track the scope of a 24-month software development project from beginning to end.  This role requires a background in software engineering, a working knowledge of agile methodologies, including lifecycle management tools, and the ability to coach teams on best practices.  The ideal candidate may see this as a career development opportunity into management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads in the definition, organization, and delivery of software products
  • Works with team to establish software build plans, decomposes activities into epics and stories, and organizes a well-defined and robust product backlog
  • Coordinates deliverables between the software teams and key stakeholders throughout the software lifecycle
  • Participates in daily scrums to assist in the removal of impediments and roadblocks
  • Creates work package level of details for program baselines and change requests, including defining key handoffs and milestones for a fully networked project schedule with critical path
  • Works with software technical leads to define quantifiable data for assessed percent complete and weekly earned value reporting
  • Briefs leadership regularly on team performance, including accomplishments, cost and schedule performance, help needed, staffing profiles, software metrics, and risks, issues, or opportunities.
  • Able to work under minimal direction

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry, or other relevant technical field
  • Software development experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test)
  • Experience with software development using either Java, C++, or Python
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience leading engineering teams
  • Experience developing software for real-time embedded systems
  • Experience developing software governed by processes for safety critical systems (DO-178B/C, etc.)
  • Experience working on an Agile team using Agile methodologies
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
