About this job

The School District of Beloit has openings for substitute school nurses. These are considered on call/as needed positions and do not offer benefits. MInority and bilingual candiates are encouraged to apply. Hourly rate of pay is $28.50 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Current Wisconsin State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  2. Minimum of Associate Degree (+ Public or Community Health Nursing Course) as outlined by DPI.
  3. Preferred BSN or MSN.
  4. Current CPR/AED certification.
  5. Ability to lift/move 50 pounds where applicable.
  6. Provide 3 professional references.
  7. Possess basic information technology and media skills.
  8. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  9. Present proof of physical fitness to assume all the duties of the job (standing, bending, kneeling, etc).


RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Work effectively, collaboratively and positively with employees, students, parents, medical personnel and the general public with cultural competence.
  2. Display proactive behavior through initiative, decisiveness and the ability to work independently.
  3. Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information (medical and personal).
  4. Provide a confidential health list of students with identified health problems to the building principal and school staff on a need to know basis.
  5. Prepare a safe and appropriate response to medical emergencies.
  6. Provide necessary training to school personnel of how to perform specialized health procedures.
  7. Monitor school staff to assure health care procedures/treatments are being performed safely and accurately and give staff feedback.
  8. Supervise, administer, and document medication administration.
  9. Develop, update, and maintain Individual Healthcare Plans/Emergency Health Plans and plans of treatment for students with chronic and acute health care needs.
  10. Provide vision/hearing screening for students as directed and make referrals for those who failed their vision and/or hearing screening.
  11. Perform informational/educational program(s) on human growth and development, physiology and hygiene, and/or other curricular health needs.
  12. Support Wisconsin student immunization requirements to improve and maintain a healthy school environment and ensure state reports are completed.
  13. Provide follow-up on those students who are not in compliance with the state immunization law.
  14. Assist in the prevention and control of communicable disease.
  15. Serve as a consultant for health and emergency nursing services in the school district.
  16. Assist in maximizing the quality of student's educational experience by helping to reduce the incidence of health related absenteeism.
  17. Identify special education students with complex medical needs and coordinate medical/nursing services, monitor student health status, develop Individual Health Plans, and perform and train specialized procedures (e.g., tracheostomy care, G-tube feedings, seizure monitoring, Diastat administration, etc.) as necessary.
  18. Perform basic computer skills, including email, word processing, data entry of immunizations, data entry of health information, office visits, etc.
  19. Obtain and maintain student medical emergency information, health records, immunization records, and other medical documents.
  20. Provide nursing services including prescribed medical treatment, procedures, and medication administration for special education students.
  21. Establish and develop working relationships with special education teaching staff and student services staff.
  22. Participate in Student Intervention Team (SIT) meetings for students with health needs.
  23. Attend requested IEP's and 504's and provide necessary evaluations and reports for the meeting, including data entry into Special Education software within district timelines.
  24. Collaborate with School Health Coordinator to ensure DPI required medication online training and skills check-off for delegated school staff are completed.
  25. Attend Medicaid provider trainings as directed.
  26. Provide recommendations in the development of policies, protocols, and procedures related to the provision of health services.
  27. Review district policies and health related policies, protocols, and procedures as necessary.
  28. Attend continuing education activities, building staff meetings, and staff development trainings as assigned.
  29. Provide nursing representation on relevant district committees.
  30. Provide updates to School Health Coordinator regarding issues related to medically complex students.
  31. In collaboration with the School Health Coordinator, supervise and delegate assigned duties to the Health Room Assistant to maintain the daily functions of the health office.
  32. Provide an annual report of nursing services to the School Health Coordinator as directed.
  33. Assist with inventorying and maintaining school health supplies and equipment for the health office. Make recommendations toward the purchases of larger medical/office equipment.
  34. Assume all other duties as assigned.


DISTRICT SUPPORT
  1. Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and promptness in submitting time cards, reports, inventories, evaluations, and other information requested.
  2. Observe, support and enforce the mission, policies and programs of the District and all applicable laws and regulations.
  3. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students with disabilities and other sensitive student information at all times in all settings.
  4. Assist the Board of Education with its commitment of equal education opportunities for all students and equal employment opportunities for all employees. RELATIONS TO THE COORDINATOR/DIRECTOR
  1. Provide updates to the Director/Coordinator regarding issues related to student health needs, including medically fragile students.
  2. Keep the Director/Coordinator informed on operations, needs and problems in the building.
  3. Accept responsibility for the position and duties.
  4. Maintain the strictest confidence concerning personnel and operational concerns of the District.
