The School District of Beloit is seeking an ESL Teacher for Beloit Memorial High School. This is a full time/permanent position based on a 192 day contract. Candidate should be passionate about preparing high school students to be successful in the future. Candidate will join a strong, dynamic team of dedicated professional educators focused on continuous improvement. Minority and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Purpose
English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers work with Limited English Proficient students at the elementary and secondary levels. ESL Teachers will work to support the second language acquisition of Limited English Proficient students through various language acquisition structures, aligned with district programming initiatives including Transitional Bilingual Education and Dual Language Immersion ensuring that ELLs are able to reach a proficient achievement level on state tests, succeed in English-led classrooms, and fully participate in society.


Duties and responsibilities
  • Support ELL students and their families in communication and engagement with the school community in regards to attendance, student achievement, student social and emotional progress, etc. This communication and engagement shall be with the support of and/or in collaboration with the Bilingual Home School Liaison.
  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction that meet state and federal standards, in the language of instruction as deemed appropriate by the context of instruction, the available programming and the needs of the students.
  • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district's/school's instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies including SIOP and Thinking Maps
  • Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
  • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress using district approved and supplied tools including ELLevation, Skyward, Educlimber, etc.
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual and small group instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  • Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed
  • Ensure that annual requirements are completed in a timely and highly proficient manner including ACCESS Testing processes and Individual Learning Plans
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of growing professionally and developing best practice approaches to serving the needs of our second language learners and their families

Required Qualifications
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction ESL License 1395
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrate cultural competencies in supporting families that speak a language other than
  • English or other underserved / underrepresented communities
  • Demonstrates professionalism, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability towork
  • Work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Knowledge and experience with GOOGLE Suite, email programs, word processing, and databases

Physical requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: may need to walk, run, climb stairs and move about the building as needed with or without needed accommodations. This is a physically demanding job where the incumbent is required to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects as needed, and complete other tasks as needed.
