Job Summary

The Department of Curriculum, Supervision, & Educational Leadership (CSEL) and The Department of Education, Development, Teaching, & Learning (EDTL) are seeking candidates for three (3) Assistant/Associate Professor positions. One (1) in Literacy (EDTL) and two (2) in Educational Foundations. Primary responsibility includes teaching mostly undergraduate courses in literacy, educational foundations, or a combination of these areas. Two of these positions will be housed in CSEL and one in EDTL. Graduate courses may be taught, as well. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, scholarly activity (peer-reviewed publications, grant writing, conference presentations, etc.), program development and assessment, and professional service.

The CSEL & EDTL departments have a long tradition of preparing teachers and school administrators.

Education faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to a constructivist philosophy, keep abreast of current and emerging education trends (e.g., performance-based program assessment, educational technology), and possess an understanding and commitment to the principles of diversity. Faculty will integrate CWU's commitment to diversity in teaching, scholarship, and service, and create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all students.

Primary job duties and responsibilities will take place in Ellensburg, WA. Distance education, online, and off-campus teaching may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Professor:

  • Earned doctorate in Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or a highly related field.

Associate Professor:

  • Earned doctorate in Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or a highly related field.
  • Six (6) years of professional academic experience (teaching, scholarly activities, and professional service).

All:

  • Three or more years of teaching experience at the PK-12 level.
  • Possession of or eligibility for a valid teaching certificate for any US state or territory.
  • Research, teaching, service, or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to being a model learning community of equity and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • University-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with program/department leadership.
  • Experience with distance, hybrid, and online educational systems.
  • Experience in curriculum assessment, development, and improvement.
  • Involvement in professional organizations.
  • Experience with a range of age levels, diverse populations, and rural settings.
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural and social justice perspectives and issues into curriculum and classroom discussions.
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in classrooms and academic work environments.
  • Research agenda that involves social justice perspectives.
  • Potential to mentor and educate students to serve diverse populations.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience

Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Additional Summer teaching may be available. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June.
