Position Summary
The Engineering Technician will build and assemble a variety of jigs, fixtures, and related tooling in support of plant production.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the Manufacturing Engineer with developing, managing, and implementing projects as needed.
- Assists and directs others on the team to meet project specifications.
- Builds and assembles fixtures and other plant related items.
- Determines methods and sequences of building fixtures.
- Designs and creates jigs, fixtures, and holding devices.
- Assists engineers in maintaining tool crib.
- Maintains engineering/fixture building area, including but is not limited to cleaning, PM equipment, and keeping the area organized.
- Ensures fixtures function appropriately per design/prints.
- Trains production on how to use and install fixtures.
- Inspects fixtures for accuracy with the help of the quality department.
- Assists with other projects assigned from manufacturing engineers or management team.
- Assists in the analysis of space requirements, preparation of layouts for new equipment and projects, and evaluation of flow of materials to improve operating efficiency and reduction of errors.
- Responsible for providing error-free work to all internal and external customers as related to the output of the position.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, handle special projects, perform clerical tasks, and assist in other departments including Quality Assurance and Production.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required. 2 or 4 year degree preferred.
- Five years of manufacturing experience required. Lean manufacturing experience preferred.
- Welding experience required. Welding certification preferred.
- 1 - 3 years of fixture building experience preferred.
- Proficient in basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook).
- Strong math and problem solving skills with the use of geometry and trigonometry.
- Able to read and use common measuring devices.
- Able to read and understand prints and drawings.
- Able to work in a high-paced, manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Speak conversational English.
