The Retail Sales Associate (Cashier) will be responsible for processing cash, debit, and credit transactions using our point-of-sale system at The Virginia Shop, while maintaining a superior level of customer service for our patrons and guests. This position will alternate in location between the Library of Virginia and the Virginia State Capitol. The Virginia Shop is seeking an individual who is comfortable interacting with the public, local patrons, and government officials. This position may also be asked to assist with small shop events, such as book talks or artist features.
Core duties and responsibilities:
- Process sales transactions and accept payments
- Provide customer service in both stores, on the phone, and online
- Processing, packing and monitoring online orders
- After-hours special event and off-site sales help
- Assist in stocking and rotating merchandise
- Maintain a clean and tidy check-out area
- Scan and bag items accurately and efficiently
- Work as a team to meet store sales goals
- Other potential duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
The successful Retail Sales Associate (Cashier) candidate will have various skills and qualifications to perform the required duties. This individual must have a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office and be comfortable working with point of sale technology. Additionally, the candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule and have excellent communication skills (both written and oral). Be able to exhibit attention to detail and stellar customer service. Experience with a cultural organization such as a library, school, or museum a plus.
